WOMC's Jim "JJ" Johnson Announces Retirement
Re: WOMC's Jim "JJ" Johnson Announces Retirement
How about giving Lauren "I am tired of reporting on these ni**ers killing one another in Detroit" Podell another shot? I'm sure she has a lot of interesting things to say.
Re: WOMC's Jim "JJ" Johnson Announces Retirement
Here's something I've pondered in the past. Not only WJR but other stations too.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2023 10:28 am... The internet connection hiccups on WJR make for a hard listen. Harper can't get on the Lodge, and drive to the Fisher Building in light traffic, early on Saturday morning? It seems to me, a real PD would say "This sounds like shit, and until there's a solution, you're doing the show from the station" Harper was WNIC's PD for many years. He knows better.
Why bother to have a studio at all, with all of these radio rubes simply phoning it in? In many cases, an old fashioned POTS line would sound better than a wobbly internet connection ...
Is the building closed on the weekends? Is a good majority of the weekend programming remote on purpose?
I don't know the answer to that question. Just a thought that has crossed my mind from time to time.

JJ has done his show from home since it started on WOMC per his comments on Drew and Mike. It was a good interview & worth a listen as JJ talks about his career from start to end. Sept 13th podcast towards the beginning.

Gosh, I don’t even remember Chuck being in 104.3.armchair pd wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 10:57 amKevin, Paolucci, and Harper would all be great choices.BKRPDM wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 9:59 pm I wonder who his replacement will be. Some suggestions, although 99% sure that none of this will happen:
*Spike, formerly of Channel 955.
*Chuck Gaidica. He was at WOMC in 2011.
*Kevin O’Neill. He was there in 1988-1989.
*Dr. Don Carpenter
*Jim Paolucci
*Dave Fuller
*Jim Harper
Doc is retired and lives in Florida.
Chuck was 'meh' and very vanilla when he did mornings there before. .
Dave would sound good on WOMC again, but not a good fit for mornings.
I don't think Spike would be a good fit at all.
Wasn’t he on Q95 at some point? Was that before or after Danny Bonaduce?

Chuck was actually on WNIC as lead host for a few years starting in 2001 when Harper started WMGC.thekman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 7:43 pmGosh, I don’t even remember Chuck being in 104.3.armchair pd wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 10:57 amKevin, Paolucci, and Harper would all be great choices.BKRPDM wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 9:59 pm I wonder who his replacement will be. Chuck was indeed also on WOMC. He replaced Purtan in 2010 after he retired.thekman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 1:30 amWNIC, of course!BKRPDM wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 10:09 pmChuck was actually on WNIC as lead host for a few years starting in 2001 when Harper started WMGC.thekman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 7:43 pmGosh, I don’t even remember Chuck being in 104.3.armchair pd wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 10:57 amKevin, Paolucci, and Harper would all be great choices.BKRPDM wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 9:59 pm I wonder who his replacement will be. Bobby Mitchell replaced him about 2 years later.
Chuck was on Q955 but only did weather for mornings and afternoon Drive.

Beau already did mornings for a while after Bobby and Stacy left.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 8:16 am I'm guessing Beau will be moved to mornings. Wouldn't surprise me if JoAnne exits, too.
Imo, his style is more fit for afternoons

Re: WOMC's Jim "JJ" Johnson Announces Retirement
Do you guys think he is really retiring or Audacy decided he was "too old" for the station?
Music is my life.
Re: WOMC's Jim "JJ" Johnson Announces Retirement
Maybe Chris Edmonds?
Re: WOMC's Jim "JJ" Johnson Announces Retirement
I vote for nobody.
No morning "show".
Just play one song after the other. No news. No weather. No traffic reports.
Pay the bills and play the music.
That's it.
I know I'm in the minority here on Buzzboard. But just how many Metro Detroiters would refrain from hitting the preset because they're not hearing gums flapping in the breeze?
Re: WOMC's Jim "JJ" Johnson Announces Retirement
Why would you even bother then, to listen to the same 275-song playlist over and over? In that case, wouldn’t you rather build your own playlist in Spotify, You Tube, etc.Round Six wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2023 6:12 amI vote for nobody.

Re: WOMC's Jim "JJ" Johnson Announces Retirement
It's interesting to watch the same names get thrown around every time there's a shake up on the dial. Jesus Christ, many of these people are pushing 70, if not over. We are watching the names of those who were big when radio was relevant ride off into the sunset, and there are few names behind them that can deliver or have the name recognition. At a minimum, they all had a bullseye on their foreheads anyway. Radio is always making more cuts than a top notch Brooklyn butcher. They can always save the 100K salary and have Bob Schneider pipe it in from Denver. If I had walked by Bill Bonds in a store or something, I would have stopped and said "Holy shit! Was that Bill Bonds?! I wanna go say hi!". Now? If I passed by an anchor on channel 7, I would have no idea. Radio is the same way. We don't run down to Joe's record shop on Fridays to meet the rawkin' afternoon jock anymore. In a way, R6 is right. Fuck it. Just play the burned out music. Knock yourself out.
"Internet is no more like radio than intravenous feeding is like fine dining."
