Holy shit, 9&10 has a new logo.

Covers all of Northern Lower Michigan (from Ludington to Tawas northward), as well as the Straits Area and Soo Region.

The "10" catches my eye first, a few moments later I notice the"9". I don't like it very well but I suppose we will get used to it.

Stationary logo in white on OLED = no.

Website change - good.

On-air TV change - apparently done without proper research - notsomuch.

They never had the CBS logo on the old one, either.
MWmetalhead wrote: Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:40 pmI've always hated the Local 32 logo. They should redo that one.
I've always wondered if they did that because at some point they thought they were going to lose their Fox affiliation.

Either way, it's weird that Heritage doesn't include affiliate logos with either station.

Maybe put the call letters under the 9 and maybe superimpose the EYE at the 9 o'clock position a little? The yellow isn't very flattering tbh.

This logo kind of looks like CBS 10, since it's on cable channel 10 pretty much anywhere it's carried on cable, but I do see the 9, which is its satellite channel.

Bingo! Fantastic! I really wish they'd have used different colors instead of the yellow background. The 9 should have a longer hook than it does. Looks more like a comma. But well done!

Much better than the one the station is actually using!

Regarding ditching the Fox 32 brand for the awkward Local 32 brand (and ugly logo), my hunch is they wanted to avoid confusion with Chicago's Fox 32 for digital purposes. I never understood why they ditched the Fox 33 brand from years ago (initially, they rebranded as Northern Michigan's Fox).
For whatever reason, when the analog shutdown happened, WFQX switched it's digital signal from channel 47 to channel 32 instead of 33. Not sure if there were any specific technical reasons for that. I assume that's why they changed their virtual channel number as well, to avoid any potential confusion.

Does anyone know what prompted the changes to the logo? Seems like it was just kind of sudden.

So, the ownership invoked a mass exodus and now they present us with this? What the heck is going on at the Comma!? It will take some getting used to, but it will never be good. :barf

To be honest, it makes the dog-eared "9&10 News" logo, which has been around since the late 1990s until now, look good. The new logo not only looks confusing, but looks too "upmarket" for the rural Northern Michigan region it serves.

Isn't WWTV 9 the main channel and WWUP 10 the satellite? Also, isn't 9&10 carried on cable 9 in SSM?

It definitely came out of nowhere, but I think Heritage acquired/merged with a digital marketing agency recently, and I'd be that has something to do with it.

So I decided fuck around with making a more practical version of their new logo.

Pretty sure the reason I got away from doing creative full-time is because I have too much common sense to jive with the marketing types.

Maybe it's still a little too "upmarket," but I also see no reason why super small-market stations *need* to have logos that look like glorified clip-art.

That looks 100X better than the new comma logo
