Re: Old Cable TV Line ups(New thread)
Back in August of 1982 over 40 years ago when I was 17 years old, my late dad & I were going to the Upper Peninsula going to U.S. 2 to M-149 to see Indian Lake & then go to Escanaba which we stayed for the night at a local motel. Then to Munising to see the Pictured Rocks for the first time. Then went to the dirt forest road H-58 which I thought I got lost BUT made it. Also stopped at Grand Marais to get something to eat. My late dad wanted to go to Tahquamenon Falls BUT we did not have anytime because my late dad wanted to get a motel so we then stopped at a downtown Sault Ste. Marie, MI motel & WNEM 5 was on cable!! I went "Holy Toledo" I don't believe it. That was it & we went home the next day.

Re: Old Cable TV Line ups(New thread)
WNEM and WJRT were apparently on cable in the Sault as early as 1970. I was also interested to see WLUC 6 Marquette listed in newspaper TV listings on both sides of the border then.
Incidentally, before WCML 6 signed on, the only source of "public TV" programming in the Canadian Sault was cable 7, which carried taped OECA (TVO) programs before TVO opened its OTA transmitter in the market. Sault MI apparently had nothing. Even what is now WNMU 13 didn't exist until very late 1972. Did any commercial stations in Northern MI carry Sesame Street or other PBS/NET shows before CMU expanded to Alpena?
Speaking of Tahquamenon, this was Sun Cablevision (later absorbed by TCI-Taft) in Newberry in 1981-82:
2 - CKCY 2 Sault CTV
3 - WJMN 3 Escanaba NBC (switched to ABC the following year)
4 - HBO
5 - CJIC 5 Sault CBC
6 - WLUC 6 Marquette CBS/ABC
7 - WTOM 4 Cheboygan NBC
8 - WGTQ 8 Sault ABC
9 - WKBD 50 Detroit
10 - WWUP 10 Sault CBS
11 - WLUK 11 Green Bay ABC (switched to NBC the following year)
12 - Time & Weather
13 - WNMU 13 Marquette PBS

Re: Old Cable TV Line ups(New thread)
I remember both, but our family never had the cable tier that carried them. I grew up in suburban Columbus, Ohio, so far out of reach of most/all of the stations in this thread.
I was surprised looking through to see Toledo stations carried on cable so close to Detroit. Monroe County, I understand. Allen Park, etc. really surprises me.
Re: Old Cable TV Line ups(New thread)
I think I saw that WGTU aired Sesame Street for a couple of years, but WGTU didn't make it to the UP until after WCML came on.

Crystal Lake, Elk Rapids, Empire, Fife Lake, Kalkaska, Kingsley, Lake City/Manton, Leland, Mancelona, and Suttons Bay, as well as Northern Cable lineups for Charlevoix/Otsego counties and Northport. Looking through the charts, the biggest surprise is that KDVR (Denver's Fox affiliate) was carried in Kingsley and Suttons Bay, on channel 23 in both communities. Neither community got WKBD.

Re: Old Cable TV Line ups(New thread)
Did WWTV and/or WGTU pre-empt network shows in 1988 (or did WBAY and WZZM air syndicated shows that went uncleared in Traverse City)?

Re: Old Cable TV Line ups(New thread)
I haven't had a chance to look through the program lineup so I couldn't say. I can say that from the other schedules I've perused from around this time 9 & 10 / 29 & 8 did not seem very pre-empt crazy. Not like, say, WJBK with CBS programming.

Re: Old Cable TV Line ups(New thread)
That's interesting! I could see that though, as "Good Morning America" didn't start until (I think) 1975, and lack of local morning programming (assuming it aired in the morning) would have left open slot for Sesame Street.

WNEM seems to have been carried in Petoskey clear up until at least 1990. Was this because of tropospheric issues that 7&4 had back then?
