Re: WLDR-FM
Is WLDR back up to full power? From past experiences, I'd bet that the answer is no.Ben Zonia wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 6:07 pmI misspoke. It was just 150 WATTS from -88 FEET HAAT (-27 METERS HAAT).
WLDR is not operating at anywhere near 100000 watts. But 880 WATTS should be better than 150 WATTS.

Exactly WHO would maintain this "active online presence"?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Oct 22, 2022 7:43 am What's amazing to me is the station appears to have ZERO active online presence. I only found links to old pages from when the Q100.3 people were running the station via LMA.
Not to mention, pay for it.

Re: WLDR-FM
WLDR-FM is on STA with 880 watts with an antenna 18 meters AGL.
WLDR-FM is the second best allotment in Traverse City. It would be a bad thing it the license was deleted, as it would probably be off for years until another auction. Given the dire predictions some say about the future of radio, it's even worse.
Apparently, Henderson will not negotiate to sell any properties at a reasonable price and conditions. This is opinion based partly on speculation and hearsay, but nevertheless, it may likely be true.

Re: WLDR-FM
The Intel I've gathered seems to indicate that the competition likes Roy owning that second best allotment, and hope that continues. As long as Roy has WLDR, it's no threat to anyone, other than Roy himself.Ben Zonia wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 4:49 pm WLDR-FM is on STA with 880 watts with an antenna 18 meters AGL.

Re: WLDR-FM
Henderson has already lost two area licenses over the years. Please don't make it three.
One thing he didn't do is declare victory and move on. That Schaberg (RIP) inspired Petition and Channel Shuffle should never have been pursued. Way too complicated. It's hard enough to try to move just two stations in a simple frequency swap that's soon mutually beneficial to five (count 'em) or more stations. I should know.

Re: WLDR-FM
I was up in TC a couple of weeks ago and WLDR (all 880 watts of it!) had a classic hits format. That format should be on 92.3 or 99.3, which both run the exact same Memories FM format from the same location! WLDR was lost just south of TC to WDEZ from Wausau, WI.
101.9 to IPR makes sense for multiple reasons:
1. Henderson wouldn't be selling to a commercial competitor
2. IPR News on 101.9 (at 100kW) would be a massive upgrade over their existing 91.5 signal and would provide a solid signal to Cadillac, where IPR News is almost impossible to receive currently from either WICA or WLMN
3. (related to #2) 101.9 would help fill in the current gaps between WICA and WLMN (to the south) and WHBP (to the north)
4. IPR could then spin off 91.5 to a religious entity
IMHO, the odds of IPR buying the 101.9 allocation are fairly slim (unless it is donated to them)

I heartedly AGREE with you MW.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 2:36 pm Would a power bill for a high wattage transmitter be justifiable (not to mention the cost to purchase 101.9 and the cost to replace its transmitter)? IPR already has 3 FM signals carrying its news/talk format. There aren't exactly a lot of high brow types residing in Wexford, Osceola and Missaukee Counties.
A non-comm class C3 in Traverse City on a good day might be worth $200,000 in today's market, perhaps less.
Bottom line - I don't believe it would be such a good move.

Re: WLDR-FM
The current regime at Interlochen has zero interest in spending more money on over the air broadcasting. None whatsoever. That comes from people on the inside.ftballfan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 7:33 pm I was up in TC a couple of weeks ago and WLDR (all 880 watts of it!) had a classic hits format. Re: WLDR-FM
The 88.7 signal is not LOS into Traverse City. Only stations and translators on the ridge West of Traverse City are LOS at 6 feet AGL, according to FMFool That's why there are so many simulcasts and translators out there.

Re: WLDR-FM
There are 13 FM stations and translators transmitting from the ridge West of Traverse City. These come from seven different locations.
In 1963, there were only three FM stations in Michigan North of the 44th Parallel. WIAA 88.3 115 kW from a 350 foot tower in Interlochen, WWTV-FM 92.9 100 kW from the Channel 9 tower near Dighton, and WJGS 98.5 19 kW from one of the WHGR 1290 towers right in Houghton Lake.
