Seven staffers from “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” including Robert Smigel, the voice of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, were arrested on Thursday night for unlawful entry at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C., Fox News’ Chad Pergram reported Friday.

“Responding officers observed seven individuals, unescorted and without Congressional ID, in a sixth-floor hallway,” the U.S. Capitol police said in a statement to Fox News. “The building was closed to visitors, and these individuals were determined to be a part of a group that had been directed by the USCP to leave the building earlier in the day.”

The police said the investigation remained active and more criminal charges could result after consultation with the U.S. Attorney.

Sounds like an insurrection to me.

Colber said it was a “fairly simple story” until Fox News “started claiming that my puppet squad had committed insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building...I’m shocked I have to explain the difference, but an insurrection involves interrupting the lawful action of Congress and howling for the blood of elected leaders, all to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. I also find this to be a rather fascinating response:

“The Capitol police were just doing their job, my staff was just doing their job, everyone was very professional, everyone was very calm. My staffers were detained, processed and released."

That is not accurate. IF he agrees that the police were "just doing their job," then by definition that means his staff were not doing theirs, as he seems to be acknowledging that their arrest was proper - meaning, his staff shouldn't have been there.
