RIFF2 plays a ton of local music + blend of alternative, electronic, some hip hop, occasional metal - largely underground. It has the sound of an old school college station.
I'm here for a good, hearty debate, to agree and disagree respectfully, and commiserate on the current state of terrestrial radio.

Does anyone here have any recordings of the riff rock cafe from when the show first aired ? I trying to pin down what song was used for the intro into that show that featured a single synthesizer with an echo effect. Any help would be fantastic
thanks

Denis and I have been trying to find this for a long long time. He nailed the second song "Party Tested" by DNA, but we're trying to figure out what the first part of the song is. One was mixed into Party Tested. A bit like Threshold by Steve Miller, but simpler. I've contacted several of the jocks that hosted the Rock Cafe, but they didn't rememberDenis Davison wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 4:27 pmDoes anyone here have any recordings of the riff rock cafe from when the show first aired ? Thanks for replying. I would think there must be an audio archive of that show somewhere or someone that still has old cassette recordings of the rock cafe that we could plug into one of the online music identifier programs that would give us an answer. I'm not giving up until I find the name of that first song
https://lettheuniverseanswer.com/2018/0 ... 1982-1985/. I found the second intro version here on the first audio clip at 3:30 but the voice over is still the same just different music

If need a Peter Werbe fix he was ML Soul of Detroit podcast on 2/1. He was asked about doing another show/podcast and he said he doesn't want to put in the work it takes to put out another show and that he's enjoying retirement.MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 4:23 pmI had no idea! I thought he was late 60s or around 70.bjmcdevitt wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 3:51 pmI'm a fan of Peter, but the man is 80 years old. That's going to fly on a rock station anymore.

Peter Werbe's cousin, Lou Werbe, would be about 66. He used to call and hang out at radio studios all the time, but as far as I know, he never worked in radio. Maybe that's the Werbe who you're thinking of.being substantially younger.

How was he hypocritical?
Speaking of WRIF, I hate how the station's processing sounds. Very loud, unnatural, and lacking in dynamic range and soundstage.

Different rules for white people versus blacks, to put it quickly. That's after listening to his show for many years.

That would be an example of a double standard, not hypocrisy.
I'm by no means a Werbe fan, lest there be doubt. He was a far leftie for sure. His political views were not my cup of tea.
