Goodnight and Good Luck

Unread post by sinklair »

In the sign off of legendary news man Edward R Murrow, “goodnight and good luck” my broadcasting friends.

For the last couple of years, a group of 25-66 employees have been posting about the going ons at Sinclair Broadcast Group’s WEYI-WSMH. However recently I and others have left/are leaving the station. Some have been our decision to go to bigger markets or get out of news altogether. Others have been forced to leave Flint as a result of the Corporate Death Star’s budget cuts/layoffs.

As a result, we won’t be posting under the Sinklair pseudonym regularly moving forward.

We know that 25-66 management will believe they have “won”. Let’s be clear… they have not. The same issues that we have been detailing over the years including horrible management, low ratings, even lower morale, poor quality, corporate must run content, sales interfering with news content and some of the lowest pay rates in the market all remain.

Our hope is that current 25-66 employees continue to keep the pressure on management by posting about the issues. If nothing else, it forces management to respond to the complaints. We also hope the new GM comes in and cleans house. The In Over Her Head News Director, the ASSistant GM/Promotions Director, the Director of Declining Sales and the HR Director/Grilled Cheese Party Planner all need to go if the station is ever to grow.

We’ve seen the station’s potential squandered. We’ve seen good people leave. We’ve seen some of the worst managers get promoted because of their ability to play corporate politics and to suck up to the GM, while competent workers are misused and abused.

We won’t remain part of the problem driving down the quality of local journalism any longer. So it’s “goodnight and good luck” to our colleagues. You’ll need it. Please keep up the good fight.

One has to wonder if the ransomware fiasco had played a role, as some Sinclair stations, such as 25 / 66 (as well as 46), were unable to run local ads, and as a result, have very low funds to pay their employees, as well as the networks (their affiliations are not free these days), the syndicators, the landlords, and everyone that they lease their equipment from.

Any bets that 5, 12 or even 49 will provide a new home for NBC, Fox and CW next year?

Headed to WWJ for when the news starts up in late Summer/fall Sinklair I'm sure you'll be a great anchor/reporter. No more Sinclair updates on 25/66.

Looks like the company finally discovered the identity of sinklair.

No shit. This forum is about to be real boring.
Although, it seems LL101 has started posting again, so at least we’ll have a bunch of offensive nonsense to fill the void.

Just imagine how much easier it would be to run a company (or station) without internal folks sabotaging things.

You’re wrong. The managers did win. They found you and all of the posters of “sinklair” out. You lost by staying in a bad situation and believing complaining about it would change anything.
Do you know that these posters were outed or are you just trolling?

So trolling. Okay, got it.

According to the staff list, there are 11 reporters/anchors/weather. Will that number hold?

And I agree, that ransomware and loss of ad revenue probably contributed to much of this last round of layoffs.
