Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
I (kind of) understand what happened in Flint and why the State was stepping in to help resolve the issues there.
But what about Benton Harbor or any of the other cities that are having "lead problems"?? Why should the STATE (and all of us taxpayers) be footing the bill for a LOCAL issue? Why isn't the local municipality or local homeowners held responsible for the water going into their homes?? If these homes are failing because of stricter requirements, how come they are not grandfathered and allowed to continue to function, albeit with adequate homeowner notification and acceptance?

Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
Because the state sets the standard. If the standard is significantly changed, the state is responsible to help the local municipality make the necessary changes. Johnson is such a pinhead.
Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
That's absurd. If the state wants to set a standard that communities can't meet, then the communities should be able to push back and be grandfathered. If the state continues to set standards that the communities can't meet, then the state actors need to change.
It should be up to the RESIDENTS of the local municipality if they want to pay for the upgrades to meet some new standard. If the state really deems it a necessary standard and the local municipality can't meet the standard, then the local municipality should be disbanded and then the local county can take it from there.
Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
Why?
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

In the meantime, the affected residents are poisoned by dealing with contaminated water.......nice.km1125 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 3:41 pmThat's absurd. Another item in common with Flint and Benton Harbor.... Emergency Managers appointed by the State.
Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
Because the state eliminated our right to sue corporations for fouling our natural resources.
Otherwise evil corporations like Dow would be buried with lawsuits over PFAS.

Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
The solution is simple.
We drink and cook with bottled water, I have arsenic in water.

Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!
Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
An Emergency Manager should just be used as a negotiated move in lieu of just disbanding the municipality entirely. We should absolutely be talking about disbanding municipalities that can't seem to function to deliver services. Maybe THEN folks would be more serious about who they put in charge of "their" municipality.tapeisrolling wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 11:18 pmAnother item in common with Flint and Benton Harbor.... Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
This is a great question.
Here's another great question: why do states like Texas feel that they have to be telling women how to manage their bodies? That is a much more individual right that the state is attempting to take away from from woman. Where is your outrage?
The safety of a public resource like drinking water is important to anyone who plans to stay alive.
Quit with the stupid rhetorical questions and realize we are in a society.
It never ceases to amaze me the conservative victimhood we have on this board. You're a bunch of whiny tools.

You do make a good point. Regional authorities are becoming more commonplace elsewhere in the country. Similar to what happened in the town our cottage is in. Several towns and townships became one large city.
Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
The whole Texas situation is not about the woman, it's about THE BABY. Once you recognize that there is another life there you'll begin to comprehend the issue.TC Talks wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 10:49 amThis is a great question.

This is not about the "safety of a public resource", it's about WHO is responsible for that. Why keep pushing the responsibility AWAY from those it impacts?? Why not just make it a FEDERAL responsibility? ALL it does is increase the costs and complexity and muddies the water (pun intended) on who is actually responsible. I have no problem with the state setting some thresholds or being a RESOURCE that local municipalities can use rather than duplicating all the effort, but the responsibility should be LOCAL. There is NO reason why someone in Traverse City should be paying even ONE CENT to replace a single waterline in South Bend for municipal water serving houses. NO REASON AT ALL.

Should the state should pay for a reverse osmosis unit for my whole house?audiophile wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 7:08 amThe solution is simple.

I spend $3/week for bottled water.

Re: Why is the state responsible for YOUR water?
Interesting that you are just fine with bottled water, and WHEN that runs out??
The Nestle company, which has since sold their water company has sucked billions of gallons out of the watershed here in Michigan, and it still continues under the new company. Streams are drying out, this is doing irreparable damage to this state.
Guess what? We ain’t gonna get no water from California.
What are your kids kids going to do when they have to purchase water on the black market just to survive?
Perhaps, Audiophile, you should reconsider your “solution”.
