Ron Cameron
Re: Ron Cameron
Speaking of Blake Griffin, here is "Blake G." - with, as Ron would say, a "Kardashian" - on last night's SNL:

Re: Ron Cameron
You wouldn't know this from Ron's talk of Wilt blocking Kareem's shot, but Kareem acquitted himself pretty admirably against Wilt. In fact, Wilt said that Kareem was the only player he ever needed help in guarding. Also, Kareen thought his toughest opponent was Nate Thurmond, not Wilt.

"We'll have you back before the [NBA] playoffs." That's a given.
Re: Ron Cameron
That's because the deal fell through almost immediately. Here's an article from the same newspaper from November 16, 1999:Momo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 10, 2021 2:18 pm Great find, Bobbert! There doesn't appear to be any online acknowledgement of Ron's role in the team, that folded after just three seasons.

Re: Ron Cameron
Now that's more like the bitter, aggrieved Ron we've come to know & love! But what of all the talk over the years that Ron Guidry was his pitching coach?!
Re: Ron Cameron
Doesn't Ron always make a virtue of him not being a homer - unlike local broadcasters?! Yet, he's a homer for the Giants ("my Hawaiian buddy") & the Rays, because they don't spend like drunken sailors.
Re: Ron Cameron
Poor Ron can never seem to get good help.
Re: Ron Cameron
Rob's doing yeoman's work trying to help Ron.
Re: Ron Cameron
Momo - I think Ron was already in full nap mode by the time I called in; he just went silent a couple of times although with Ron that often is better radio.
Re: Ron Cameron
Yeah, 3rd hour Ron - especially after the high energy expended with a guest - is not at the top of his game.
Where are all the callers?! I thought JJ would be a regular with Ron back on WDTK, but he hasn't called in weeks. The Warren contingent has had little - if any - presence since Ron's return. And remember Super Rasiday (sp), a regular when Ron was last on WDTK? He's been totally MIA. I hope he's okay.

"Where are all the callers?" Thanks to the influence of this "buzzboard," I made my first call to Ron on October 10, 2021. I was Frank from Grosse Pointe, who asked Ron if he thought the Detroit Lions could have another 0-16 season. For some reason Ron thought I was an accountant(!?). I made a Super Bowl/Toilet Bowl analogy and Ron seemed to appreciate the call. Ron was pleasant with me and I might very well call again.
Re: Ron Cameron
A momentous occasion. Enjoy the good calls while they last, but just be sure not to try to correct him. And whether you like it or not, Ron's got it fixed in his mind that you're an accountant. He's going to ask you to advertise on his show. Maybe even perform some accounting work on his new restaurant.ShempLives wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 6:55 pm "Where are all the callers?" Re: Ron Cameron
I did know someone who advertised once on Ron's WPON show. First Ron came into a friend's establishment unannounced and proceeded to hustle sponsorship by promising an audience of thousands that would hear the commercial announcement. My friend agreed and Ron plugged the business once. Upon hearing the ad on a Saturday, I called the business later in the next week to mention that I had listened to Ron's mention. I was told that when Ron returned for payment of the plug, said friend balked - complaining that all he heard was static. (The enterprise was out of the broadcast range of WPON.) The "sponsor" further told me that he probably would have paid Ron anyway, but Mr. Cameron got so belligerent that he had to throw Ron out of the place.
