Mickleson pulls out of Detroit tournament

Unread post by Lester The Nightfly »

Professional golfer Phil Mickleson pulls out of future appearances at Detroit's Rocket Mortgage Classic over an unfavorable article in the Detroit News

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sport ... 832673002/

“It was so much effort for me to be here and to have that type of unnecessary attack — not like I care, it happened 20-something years ago — but just the lack of appreciation, yeah, I don’t see that happening,” Mickelson said when asked if he’d return to the third-year PGA Tour event. “I don’t see me coming back. Not that I don’t love the people here and they have been great, but not with that type of thing happening.”

My question is what does “It was so much effort for me to be here" mean? Are they forcing him to carry his own clubs? *gasp* Will his private jet aircraft be in the shop and he'll be forced to fly commercial? *double gasp* I'm not saying the article was a good idea but it did have a local slant. Own it Phil and quit being an entitled little bitch.

I read the story and I'm not sure what Mickleson is pouting about. I don't think it puts him in a bad light and doesn't say or imply he was doing anything illegally. Even says in various parts that he wasn't even being investigated.

It just sounds like he doesn't want to be here and someone twisted his arm to show up this year.

Just curious, why did DetNews wait until this week to run the story?

They've been sitting on this for quite a while.

I am always leary of newspapers becoming the news they are covering.

Maybe because Mickleson was rolling into town?

Honestly, this is one of the most special snowflake cases ever. Poor Phil!

Is that good journalism?

When I heard Mickelson's reaction, I thought "what a whiny little self-absorbed douche bag."

I guess Phil didn't like light being shone on his gambling addiction. OK; fine. He can criticize the Detroit News all he likes, but why use Detroit's golf fans as sacrificial lambs? I thought that was really shitty of him.
If it was so untrue, sue for libel. Pretty simple.
