WLDR-FM
Re: WLDR-FM
Speaking of history cards, I looked through WLDR's and they originally applied to be on 97.3 with a tower site along M-37 eight miles south of TC (which would've put their TL likely on the big hill just south of the fairgrounds).
WTCM-FM originally applied to be on 101.9 from the WPBN complex on M-72 according to their history cards (they applied to be on 103.5 before signing on); the move to Mesick happened around 1980.

Re: WLDR-FM
Yet again, you are giving out bad Info. In the current reincarnation of these stations, all four signals are clearly giving out the correct ID at the top of each hour when on air.
I believe there was a recording of it posted on this forum somewhere.
As I'm typing this 101.9 is just stactic.
Re: WLDR-FM
OK, I listened yesterday at the 11am ID was only 92.3. They might be running all at another time.

Turned the radio on 101.9 has music now. Playing oldies. Off to 92.9 or 105.9 now.

Re: WLDR-FM
I’m out by Crystal Lake right now and Memories FM is mysteriously operating on 100.9 FM... strange. They’re also on 100.1, 99.3 and 92.3 as usual, and I couldn’t get WLDR since (last I checked anyway) they’re running at low power closer to my Traverse City home.
Re: WLDR-FM
It's been a while since there have been any full Class Cs, at least that I can think of, in the region. Almost all have been downgraded to C0 that were recently Class C. WLDR is Class C1, WTCM-FM is Class C0). But the old rules would have required WLDR on 97.3 (Class C frequency at the time) to be 65 miles away from WMBN-FM on 96.7. I'd have to look, but even 8 miles South of Traverse City would still be somewhat less than 65 miles from the present day WMBN (AM) tower that WMBN-FM 96.7 was on.ftballfan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:36 amSpeaking of history cards, I looked through WLDR's and they originally applied to be on 97.3 with a tower site along M-37 eight miles south of TC (which would've put their TL likely on the big hill just south of the fairgrounds).

Have to look at more History Cards.

Re: WLDR-FM
Looks like about 61 miles to the sand pit on the top of the hill from the Petoskey tower.

Re: WLDR-FM
I probably wouldn't have remembered 97.3 Milwaukee was so close except for WTMJ 620 coming in so well with 50 kW. As a Class B to Class C requiring 170 miles then (and even now for full Class C), at about 156 miles it would be 14 miles short (to the now WRNW, then WISN-FM). That might have worked under the old rules before 1962, where overlap over Lake Michigan could be easily excluded, but not in the later 1960s. Unless they asked for a waiver (which didn't work probably), it had to be changed.
I don't know if they proposed substitution of 96.3 242C at that point for 244A, but that would have required the TL to be 150 miles from WBCM-FM/WHNN 96.1. The area that they originally located WMBN-FM 96.3, near Island View Hill near Cross Village, is difficult to get to (4WD required) Summer, near impossible at times in the Winter. They should have maintained an AUX at the 1340 site. I never heard that they did. They were only out there for a couple of years maximum before they "downgraded" to Class C1 to a more accessible site. All things considered, it wasn't a de facto "downgrade".

Re: WLDR-FM
What year did they get clearance for 96.3 from Canada?
Wasn't 96.3 an allotment in Sault Ste Marie until Dave Schaberg got it switched to another frequency?

Re: WLDR-FM
Maybe. They have a ton of vacant allotments, AM as well as FM. Some of those undoubtably were replacement frequencies that they never intended to and probably will never use. If you were going to put an AM in SSM, ON, why not just use 920 or 1050? 1050 had 10 kW nondirectional Days. Usually they are relatively easy to deal with. Stations in the US can accept 40 dBu cochannel interference to Class A and all Class Cs, rather than the 34 dBu specified in the treaty. And you don't have to protect the allotments except on Canadian land. 96.3 would have been problematic near Petoskey though.

Re: WLDR-FM
I don't remember exactly, but they did have to clear a vacant Canadian allotment in the Soo to get the 96.3 into Petoskey. I believe Petoskey was on a different frequency back then, but have no idea what it was.

Re: WLDR-FM
In 92-108 MHz, these are the SSM, ON allotments.
92.1 C, 92.9 B, 95.5 C, 97.3 B, 100.5 C (CHAS), 104.3 C (CJQM), 106.5 A, 107.3 C
870, 920 (was CKCY), 1050 (was CFYN), 1200 (would require no 25 mV/m overlap with WSOO, at least in the US).

Re: WLDR-FM
106.5 is on the air as CJTK-FM-8 with a Contemporary Christian format, relaying 95.5 FM in Sudbury.
92.9 and 97.3 were previously used for low-power stations which are now long gone. The 92.9 was a TIS station and 97.3 was a repeater of CHIM-FM in Timmins, another Christian station which lost its license to broadcast as a Christian station and was re-licensed as a TIS (according to Wiki). (Apparently the CCM format is back on the air at 1710 kHz!)
Re: WLDR-FM
Even though they are underutilizing many allotments, the allotments remain at the higher Class in the International Agreement.
This Agreement seems to not contain some of the information about short spaced agreements that I have seen in the past. There is more information elsewhere. I'll keep looking. The Allotment Table appears to be out of date, especially on the US side.
