A Recipe For Foreign Domination Of The US
Our US universities will soon have 100% foreign students, because no US students will qualify. This is fine for public universities as they will get double the money in tuition and fees from foreign students. Only foreign graduates will qualify for government jobs requiring higher skill sets. China will be justified in calling all of our people fat, lazy, stupid Americans. Especially because they allowed it to happen. Russia and China are certainly just LTAO about this plan.
Even now, higher Math and Science Courses have been watered down in many cases, even in High Schools. Up to now, AP courses have compensated for this. But this plan sounds like they would soon be a thing of the past, California now and the rest later. Dontcha know California always starts doing things first?
I always did think "The California Test Of Mental Maturity" was a contradiction of terms.

That said, I do agree that the state of K-12 education is in absolute shambles. Teachers should be paid more so that we incentivize more of our top talent to educate our children. Children also need more individualized attention. We all learn different things at different rates. Poor grades can just as often be attributed to a failure of the system rather than failure of a student. We can certainly do more for failing children before we write them off as we have.
I'm here for a good, hearty debate, to agree and disagree respectfully, and commiserate on the current state of terrestrial radio.

And yet the current administration wants to 'double down' on that mess by adding four more years (two before and two after) at taxpayer expense. WHAT A WASTE!!!!jadednihilist wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 8:56 pm That said, I do agree that the state of K-12 education is in absolute shambles.
We spend PLENTY of money on each classroom... about $250,000 annually for each class of about 22 kids. Some starting wages for teachers might be pretty low, but they have some pretty nice benefits they can't get elsewhere. If pay raises are indeed necessary, perhaps we should find out where the bulk of that $250K is going, if not mostly to the teachers.jadednihilist wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 8:56 pm Teachers should be paid more so that we incentivize more of our top talent to educate our children.
Teachers should be incentivized to TEACH kids things they need to know to be successful, not try to manipulate them into their liberal subjects.

If it’s 250,000 and the teacher is making 50-80,000 that’s not the bulk of anything...km1125 wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 12:39 pmAnd yet the current administration wants to 'double down' on that mess by adding four more years (two before and two after) at taxpayer expense. I disagree with the first sentence and agree with the second. Rather than pay more to the same teachers, I'd rather hire more and reduce class sizes.jadednihilist wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 8:56 pm .... Teachers make more per hour than many others with a bachekors degree and their jobs are too well protected.

College professors aren't protected until they reach tenure. Any teacher involved with K-12 education also has a very little protection and also very little pay. Your championed charter schools don't pay most teachers above 50K a year on average.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

50K isn’t “very little pay”… but you have to be responsible with your money and that’s the problem. Most people spend like drunken sailors and wonder why they are in trouble.MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 11:57 pm College professors aren't protected until they reach tenure. The average starting teacher salary in Michigan is about $36k. The $50k+ salaries are what you acquire 10+ years down the road. That's way too little pay when you factor in the cost of a bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate, which is essentially a master's degree.

However with an actual masters degree you get more don’t you? And then specialists and doctorate if you do choose… those don’t really come with tenure restrictions before you get the money do they?jadednihilist wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 12:51 pm The average starting teacher salary in Michigan is about $36k. At the lowest level, and they get nice raises every year.jadednihilist wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 12:51 pm The average starting teacher salary in Michigan is about $36k. They can make almost 83k in their 14th year of teaching. Considering they only work about 7 hours a day, 180 days a year, that's amazing pay for part-time work. Wouldn't you say?

Re: A Recipe For Foreign Domination Of The US
It's laughable to assume teachers work only 7 hours per day. A lot of time goes into effective lesson planning, assessing student's progress/grading, professional development and service work.

Re: A Recipe For Foreign Domination Of The US
Those teacher parking lots are looking pretty empty about an hour after last bell, and you do know most districts allow a free hour for teachers to do things like grade work. Teachers who choose to participate in academic/community service get paid for it in most districts. And if you look at the schedule, when professional development is done by way of an academic program, there are nice-sized rewards.

It takes more than an hour to grade work. A lot of that work comes home with the teacher.

Shocking that GG has such a disdain for teachers. Probably because he got left back 3 times in second grade.
