Phil Spector

Unread post by Bobbert »

At Christmas, I always enjoy the cuts from the Christmas album produced by Phil Spector, who died yesterday. Especially that sharp drumbeat at the beginning of Sleigh Ride.

All along the icy wastes, there are faces smiling in the gloom.

Let's see, C.S. Lewis died, Aldous Huxley died, the Beatles released their second British album (With the Beatles)...all overshadowed by an event in Dallas, Texas.

You left out the big disaster that took place in Detroit at the Statler-Hilton Hotel that day.

Lions' Sale To Bill Ford Wins OK

By GEORGE PUSCAS

William Clay Ford acquired the Detroit Lions Friday with only one significant dissenting vote, that of his great uncle.

Lion stockholders eagerly accepted the $6,000,000 offer of the young industrialist in a special meeting at the Statler-Hilton Hotel.

Thus the 15-year group ownership of the Lions was dissolved and Ford, 38, youngest of the late Henry Ford's grand sons, became sole proprietor of the professional football club.

ROUGHLY 94 per cent of the 23,000-plus shares in the Detroit Football Co. were voted in favor of accepting Ford's offer, the highest ever made for a sports franchise and its properties.

The one known "nay" came from E. R. (Roy) Bryant, an original member of the syndicate which purchased the Lions from Fred Mandel in 1948. Bryant is a great uncle of Ford. He favored the sale, but voted against it because of possible legal entanglements.
