WOW what a wild day.....Shades of W4 , is Chuck Santoni staying on ?? LOL But really, just how pathetic is canadian radio ownership like bell media??? They have literally cut their own throats.

Just what the dial needs is a new country station lmao.

Gotta give Entercom credit though they filled a hole and quickly, we'll see if they can hold it better than Alt106.7 did.

The winner from all this imo is WRIF as 89X played alot of the same material as Riff.

if I was Wheelz I would immediately start adding more 90's/2000's "new generation of classic rock" and squeeze Riff between them and Alt98.7

Ideally, 98.7 should've went classic rock when 106.7 went alternative.

The Breeze wasn't a bad choice, though, and fared OK in adults 25 to 54, especially pre-COVID. The new station probably won't even be top 15.
Yes MW I agree 98.7 should have went back to rock as WLLZ back then too, but i think this new ALT can have legs if done well. IFART does everything half assed and wont tweak when necessary. Lets hope the new ALT can go get a couple good air talent and have a playlist that doesnt stagnate and add stuff listeners havent heard for a long while.

Time will tell....

More 94 was Country.
Never heard of More 94. I just know that a few years ago after W4 hit the dirt on 106.7, we had 99.5 almost alone. Then, 93.1 Doug FM got crunched after people got sick of no DJ's and changed to whatever it is now. Then, Blackburn boosted the 95.9 signal to Detroit, and that came in. Now, there's this mess.

Even my aunt who loves classic country won't like this; she doesn't like anything newer than Garth Brooks. LOL. She won't listen to Florida/Georgia Line.

The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

From my understanding, Doug flipped because Cumulus wanted an outlet for Nash, and it was literally their only option.

I'm still a little pissed about losing Doug FM. However, the playlist got extremely stale toward the end; the same burnt-to-a-crisp songs every day, just shuffled in a different order. Not really "playing everything", is it?

Just as I remember it. 1996 was a prime year for 89x, and I'd be willing to bet I had this on a blank tape at one point lol

where I live, I can get country on 88.7, 93.1, 94.1, 95.1, 95.9, 99.5, 102.9...and that's just what I can think of. A can get a faint 99.9 if I move the antenna just right.

But, hey, maybe 9 signals will be enough. We'll see.
MWmetalhead wrote: Thu Nov 19, 2020 6:35 pm You forgot about 100.7 WITL for country. ;)
Don't forget 630 CFCO on the AM dial (92.9 FM if you live close to Chatham).

I think that's the web ad service making that placement, based on where you live.

630 does come in even slightly, but 92.9 where I live is Cruisin 92-9. Too far from them to get the FM signal.

No sign on 580 until I get to roughly Novi. Came in fairly well on 14 at Gottfredson Rd.

I'll be honest and say that I really don't think the Alt 98.7 playlist is bad. Sorry. 😂 I mean, okay, a few things are bad. I'll agree on that Dance Monkey song being... a lot. It's pretty weird. Sounds more pop than alternative to me.

See, I'm actually viewing some of the new music cuts as being good choices. I know a lot on this board don't agree with me. But those ARE the trend in alt music nationally. Things I've been hearing on Alt Nation on SiriusXM... it makes me feel like, "oh, this is legit, it's big right now. They kinda know what they're doing." But it's a bit weird how much gold they play that's more 'conventional' and formulaic and more pop-sounding than alt... I heard Linkin Park feat. Jay-Z "Numb/Encore" tonight and it was like hmm. Okay then. Fine.

It seems like a pretty big playlist though, right? There's a lot of surprising variety in their gold. Some good older alternative that hasn't been heard for a while. I'll actually give this one a shot.

It almost doesn't matter that "ALT" is destined for failure. It's effectively a national station for Entercom that uses the same airtalent in the same dayparts among all their stations in that format... maybe there will be a local afternoon drive host for 98.7. Maybe. Don't get your hopes up.

Hell, the frequency itself is unnecessary; just call it "ALT."

Wrong again. More 94 was the rehashed "CKLW" and Oldies/Classic Hits. Eventually, they dropped More 94, and the jocks just called it "CK". Tom Shannon, and Dave Prince were there.
