Wow, has it actually been 30 years?
I haven't listened to 89X in many years, but this still stings a bit since I listened to them exclusively in my early 20s. From the time they were The Cutting Edge doing only a few hours a night to the late 2000s, they definitely shaped my music interest as I was already tired of WRIF, WLLZ and WCSX even back then.

MW -- it's probably the same guy/girl imaging combo they've had for the last 5-10 years. Fits 93.9 perfectly, so I'm not expecting a wholesale change there.

Agreed; CHR/Pop is most likely outcome. Would not rule out Variety Hits, either.

A little bit of the 89X playlist will probably be integrated into 93.9. Would be nice if 93.9 could sound more like 107.1. Gawd, speaking of 93.9, they are playing Justin Timberlake right now. Barf.

The lead balloon has been kept afloat for so long that this honesty comes as a surprise. Other than brief reprieves, the station has sounded like crap for the better part of eight years.

Here's a thought - might CKWW be moving to FM? Might both they and CKLW be moving to FM even?

I'd like to see CKWW on one of the frequencies, and variety hits on the other.

I wish the River was true AAA again, just like 107one is. I like 107one's variety. Always listen when I'm up in Ann Arbor.

I think those are banned -- a station near Niagra Falls (I think?) got nailed for attempting it.

I’m 50/50 on whether this is a stunt or true.

If true, I see one flipping to Christmas music. A CKLW simulcast is a possibility for the other. I had thought of CKWW moving to 800 and 580 going dark, but you would think their pages would have a notice too if that happened to be true.

Top 40 is a possibility. 96.7 comes in spotty near me, and worse to the East (translators) so I don’t know their specific music or how well they do and if the Windsor pie could be split in two.

What else is logical? Not sports, and an FM simulcast of CKWW is unlikely.

I'm hearing rumblings that CKWW is changing also. If so, that seems to support the idea of a Classic Hits or Adult Hits format on one of the two FM's.
As for 580's new format, my gut feeling is TSN Radio 580.

Well, alternative rock fell out in the early to mid 00s. Then they tried doing butt rock, but WRIF has butt rock on lock. Alternative rock isn't even rock anymore, it's what MW calls "snowflake music". Current rock sucks, so this isn't a total surprise. Whoever said D&CtF leaving started this...you are right. The clock was ticking. And to think how bad ass this station used to be. And it's gone.

I tuned into the very 1st night of the Cutting Edge of Rock, where Greg St James took over the frequency with a much format change., then as the block became bigger and bigger, just in time for the Grunge explosion of the 90s. Then left the station behind when it started to become just another playlist driven post-grunge, nu-metal, and emo rock station. I am shocked it did last as long as it did.

I'll say this -- the fact that either one could go "club slut/yo dawg" music (stole that from you ) is depressing, and will be a hell of a change for those (who were left) that have listened to either station for an extended period of time. If one were to go variety hits -- I'm thinking 93.9 -- it might be less jarring, but will still be quite a departure.
