Not Heineken

Here is a different clue. Probably not any easier, just very slightly different.

Was going to be my next guess. I think you got it!
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Is it an import?

Yes, the beer is imported from Europe, but I think in a rather unusual way.

Clarity on that rather obtuse answer will have to come during the reveal...

I'm thinking they've started putting Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier – Helles Lager in a can.

I'll let you tell the story. Try their smokebeer sometime.

Indeed they have! Unlike their Rauchbier, though, there's only a hint of smoke to this lager.

Who's canning it, though - and how - I found to be a rather interesting story:

"TANK CONTAINER CANNING PROJECT" It's brewed in Bamberg, shipped over in a tank, and canned in Connecticut.

This particular batch was canned in May 2020.

And, yes - it is sehr gut!

Mid October. Not exactly beach weather. But, if the sun is shining, gotta have a beer on the patio.
