The New Q105
The New Q105
Now that that the "new" q105 has been on the air for a couple weeks, what are your thoughts?

Re: The New Q105
The equivalent of putting a ribbon on a turd.
Station should've brought back the Star 105 brand and a library-driven, workplace-friendly Hot AC format and stationality.
Going with the Bert Show was a tremendous blunder.

Re: The New Q105
Not good. Cumulus is basically trying the same approach that failed from 2012-2014 with a CHR format. The ratings were bad then, and won't change now.
I think they should have went back to the formula that was popular for years prior to 2012 with a Hot AC with quite a few older songs in the rotation. I actually thought the stunt format of '90s and 2000s hits would have been a better fulltime format choice, as it's a format Toledo doesn't have. Soft AC would have been a better choice too, as the River is more of a straight up AC.
The Bert Show seems to be a show that is not all that popular in many different markets. It will probably bomb here.

See my posting on what I do not see being correct for Q. It should be further down. It's still a mess! Still faking shows, for drive times. It's still obvious. Obviously, nobody cares. It's like WMNT, it just takes up space. I stopped listening. But, I know what to do. Hard to see someone make the stupidest mistakes. For example, someone walking off a cliff. Read my post further down. Nothing's changed.

So far - the new Q105 has earned a 1.9 share!
Clearly, Cumulus has some great in-house research that is governing format decisions. LOL

Maybe the DJs could go back to calling themselves "The Jones Boys"?

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

That might be even lower than prior to the rebranding, If this trend continues, I wonder how long before they rebrand again?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 8:28 amSo far - the new Q105 has earned a 1.9 share!

Re: The New Q105
The station has been statistically flat the past several surveys. Over that period, 105.5 has seen what are most likely the worst AQH shares ever in the history of the radio station.

I think the closest they had to bad AQH shares was in 2012 when they tried CHR for the first time.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sun Nov 15, 2020 12:54 pmThe station has been statistically flat the past several surveys. Re: The New Q105
Here's the exact issue.... and I should be paid to say this:
If Q105 wants to be a player, they need to be cool, just like stations used to be. 60's and 70's were cool for radio. Nobody is attempting the "coolness factor." They talk old. They play old music. This is your grandmother's radio station, pretending to be modern. As the Hot AC choices show. I display this in my previous Q105 post. The best Q can do is give away a video console. Nobody in the building knows what hip/cool is, including Chris/Peapod.
Q105 is lame. That's what the 18-34's say. Why change (or copy) a logo for the college, if you refuse to capture the students' ears? A station can be hip and modern without alienating. Cumulus, in general has no clue to ANY radio psychology or marketing. So, the younger audience snubs them.
Then, take a guy that does not prioritize his audience, for recording in Audition mode-voicetracks and podcast, and give him another drive time. That's just as bad as going out and purposely catching herpes!
Like I said many times on here... it's the stupid mistakes they (Cumulus) make in Atlanta, that effect Toledo's outcomes. In this case [the new] Q105 suffers.

Re: The New Q105
The problem with CHR Radio in general is most people making programming decisions are white guys in their 40s or 50s. Yeah, there may be a local PD who is younger, but those guys are figure heads. All they do is implement marching orders from the corporate office.
No money for meaningful local contests. Increasing reliance on out-of-town content with no on-air listener interaction (i.e. phoners). Uninteresting music choices.
Look at CHR/Pop, Rhythmic CHR, Hip-Hop and Alternative station ratings in PPM markets. Over the past 120 days, scores of heritage stations have seen their worst ratings EVER. In some cases, the record lows have broken prior record lows by a country mile.
Adults under 40 are abandoning old fashioned radio in droves. Working from home makes it easier to listen to alternate sources for music or other aural content.
