Re: WLMI Flipping
WLMI management:
"Guys, I have a sure fire success idea! Let's do a classic rock format playing the same burned out lame 70s songs played on WMMQ. Lansing listeners are known for their willingness to try something new - they'll love it! Call around to the other Midwest stations and see if they have a deep voice that can throw some imaging together in the next half hour or so. Let's call it "Cruisin", as the whole town will be cranking it as they cruise around town in their 82 Trans Am. We can't go wrong!"

That or they spent some time in Bad Axe.
Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!
Re: WLMI Flipping
It’s called corporate radio it’s been around forever. 150 song playlists all sounding the same from market to market. We can only thank the F.C.C. for deregulation in 1996 for the state of radio in 2020.

Re: WLMI Flipping
If we hear any announcers refer to Lindsey Buckingham as "she," we'll know they spent too much time at 935 South Van Dyke.

Re: WLMI Flipping
My guess is it's a spoiler format designed to shave a bit from WMMQ to benefit Q106.

It doesn't matter what stacks does any way. WQHH is going to hammer them regardless. No two ways about it.
Just like nobody could take WTCM FM down in Traverse. Uncle Henderson went dark trying so.

Re: WLMI Flipping
Why is it that every time I hear about a station "flipping", I think of a fish flipping on a boat, trying to get out and back in the water before being eaten.

'TCM is so dominant that it also destroys multiple country stations (WLXV, WKZC, and WWBR come to mind) that serve smaller communities in their own backyards!

Re: WLMI Flipping
It's like the many attempts to take on WITL over the years. Many tried, most died. The one threat I think they took seriously was WVIC's flip to Country as 94.9 The Cat. That ultimately disappeared when WITL's then-parent company bought WVIC and switched the format to Active Rock (Buzz 95). Duke FM does well in its own right because it counter-programs to Wittle with the Classic Country format and is not a direct competitor per se.

Re: WLMI Flipping
BTW, I noticed that 92.9's drops use incorrect grammar:
You don't play less commercials....you play fewer commercials. A quantity is different than an amount.
Not that they're the only ones. I've noticed an increased use of this incorrect syntax all over the media in recent years.

Maybe they just don't have that many sponsors and in the old days, the carousel would have had fewer carts.
