Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is pulling back the reins in Michigan's northern regions that have enjoyed looser COVID-19 restrictions but also allowing for the reopening of Detroit's three casinos.

Anyone that doesn't think her majesty's decision to open the Detroit casino's isn't tied directly to the loss of tax revenue for the City, should buy this really nice piece of lakefront property I have for sale in Sanford.

Casinos generate revenue. Ontario green lighted casinos two weeks ago. The casino in our town elected not to open. They say, with the occupancy restrictions, they can't make money.

The rule doesn't apply to breweries, wineries, or distilleries.

I have tracked the origins of every covid case in Grand Traverse County. There's a group of about 70 community leaders who do this several times a week.

23% of all our cases came from 6 bars; Low Bar, Kilkinneys, Bootleggers, Union Street Station, Dillengers and The Parlor. They all fall within these closure guidelines. These aren't the breweries or wineries, these are the "cheap alcohol targeted at younger patrons" establishments. I will remind you in our County, the health department takes a picture and the prosecutor takes over from there. The police are not involved in executive order enforcement.

We don't care if a middle-aged couple wants to come up for the weekend, because they tend to be responsible. But bachelorette parties and young douchebags can stay home. The Torch Lake sandbar is another type of gathering that will be limited now.

I'm not familiar with any of those places, but do they have outdoor space available? If so, they're not really impacted. Torch Lake (last I checked) was outside. I don't see how indoor limitations apply. I also doubt the Antrim County Sheriff marine division is going to be interested in being the fun police.

None of those places have outdoor seating. They are all dark with no windows, several are in basements.

The Antrim sheriff has actually been quite responsive to covid enforcement. The department has a lot of pressure from both business groups and the Health department's in the area. The way we see things up here, there is no economic benefit for places that create covid-19 outbreaks.

If you take a walk down our Front Street, you quickly learn that we take the masks seriously, and you won't get very far without one.

Bab's in Ann Arbor didn't have outdoor space, but they created sidewalk and parallel parking space after the rule came out. Would any of these places have that option? I'm guessing from your description that the places you mentioned are less Bab's and more Rick's or Skeeps.

Judging from various news sources,it would appear that the only bar here in the greater Traverse City area that is being forced to close is the Union Street Station.All others,to the best of my understanding,are technically able to stay open.

Union Street Station could remain open too. Change their product offering to a bowl of popcorn/bag of chips and drink combo and boom, you just hit 30% food.
