Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) dies

Unread post by matt1 »

Singer & guitarist Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac 1967 - 1970) has died at 73 years old. The songs "Black Magic Woman" (1969, a hit for Santana in late 1970) & "Oh Well" (from 1970 "Then Play On", a hit for Detroit's The Rockets in 1979). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Green_(musician)

I know I am swimming against the tide when I say this, but the farther Fleetwood Mac got from the Peter Green era, the less I liked them. I have almost no use for anything past roughly 1973.

Peter Green was great with Fleetwood Mac and I agree after 1973 they went too commercial. Pre 1974 Fleetwood Mac had great tunes like “Black Magic Woman” 1968, “Oh Well” 1969, “Green Manalishi” 1970, “Bare Trees” 1972, “Sentimental Lady” 1972 and Hypnotized” 1973 all total vintage classics. Great Music indeed, Stevie Nicks actually ruined Fleetwood Mac after the self titled “Fleetwood Mac” album from 1975 and “Rumors” from 1977 at that point they were too commercialize.

Fantastic artist he was! He will be missed.
He's been inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of fame right?
I really hope he was and didn't get the Bob Welch treatment.
Bob brought the Mac into the mainstream pop market.
The 1970-74 era of Mac was the best. He was the perfect replacement for Spencer (or did he replace Kirwin)
Music is my life.

Peter Green 1979 "In The Skies" & 1980 "Little Dreamer" are great albums. Reminds me of Eric Clapton & the late J.J. Cale!! Both of them are on iTunes!!

Peter Green was inducted in the Rock Hall with Fleetwood Mac. Bob Welch replaced Jeremy Spencer (Welch and Danny Kirwan appeared on the Future Games and Bare Trees albums)

I've always enjoyed (and knew the source of) "Oh, Well", whether by the original or new F-Mac, or The Rockets roughed-up version... but I had no idea Green was also the genius of "Black Magic Woman" and "Green Manalishi (with the Two-Pronged Crown)", the latter of which was always Judas Priest's version rattling my cans. I remember hearing the 'Bare Trees' album once in my youth, but it didn't hook me at the time.

I've since sampled some of those pre-Energy Crisis tunes and videos. All I can say is: My loss!

Sad he's passed, and that he didn't get more recognition in his prime...
