The Joker Went Wild. Brian Hyland. #20 Hot 100 in 1966. Much bigger Regionally, including Top 10 in Michigan. The fantastic hook played throughout the song, on bells and xylophone, was performed by Leon Russell, not to be confused with Bobby Russell, who wrote the song, and is/was apparently no relation. The Label Clue is that the song was produced by Snuff Garrett and Leon Russell.

There were some others by Gary Lewis where Leon also played bells, one where you know it by the first ring of a bell. I'll dig that up. Others were produced by Snuff Garrett, and may or not show credits to Leon Russell.
Here's one. Jill. #52 Hot 100 1967. #1 WIBM #9 WLAV #9 WGRD #14 WTRX #19 WSAM. Single bell heard throughout recording.

"The Joker Went Wild" is a great song. That and (likely all) the others you cited are in rotation on Real Oldies 1480, WGVU-AM in GR. It's a good station to stream for a wide variety of hits, big and small. They claim their library is over 9,000 songs.
That, and it's public radio, so aside from promos and pledge drives, there are no ads.

Heard that "The Joker Went Wild" song for the first time in the Summer of 1987 on WMMI 830 AM (when it was an oldies station) in Mount Pleasant, MI & DJ Jim Zippo played that song!! Don't have "The Best Of" CD but I do have the reissue 45 single from Underground Records which is from Canada!!

Got the Gary Lewis & The Playboys "Legendary Masters Series" from 1990 (which also has talking at the beginning of a few songs) including "Everybody Loves A Clown" which the announcer says "1, 2, 3 &".

Re: Truly Underrated Songs By Brian Hyland, Gary Lewis, With Leon Russell On Bells And Keyboards
I thought that album sounded familiar, and after going through the unfiled portion of the collection, I did see that same Gary Lewis "Legendary Masters" title that I picked up in the past couple of years. I'll leave it out to give another listen to soon.
I'm also looking to get Gary's "I'm On The Right Road Now" album, his first after returning from the Army, but that's only available on vinyl. Gary's early struggles with a post-war life, around the time he recorded that album, are mentioned in "King of Comedy", a biography of his father.

One thing I've noticed, is there are usually one or more presently famous, or became famous later, people behind many obscure or forgotten songs. With "The Joker Went Wild", you have Songwriter Bobby Russell and Arranger and Backing Tracks by Leon Russell.
