This also means that WHNE could be seen by Sporadic-E skip (not here in Michigan, rather by TV DXers in a halo-shaped area, about 700-1400 miles from WHNE, in May, June or July - in the late morning hours and around sunset, caused by Sporadic-E skip.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 5:12 pm I'm not sure about Metro Detroit, but VHF 3 was always noisy in the Grand Rapids area during the analog days. With a properly installed rooftop antenna, WWMT delivered a clean signal, but with indoor rabbit ears, silver or yellowish diagonal bars constantly danced across the screen. I think this was caused by power lines outside.
In Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor, I always had very good success at picking up a clean picture on WDIV channel 4, but Fox 2 was hit or miss.
While rabbit ears are still easy to find, many of the inexpensive ones are only engineering to receive VHF 7 and above. It's somewhat difficult to find rabbit ears that extend to three foot or longer on the store shelf.
By the way, WHNE will be broadcasting with 6.5 kW ERP, not 3.0 kW as earlier reported. Their STA request to use 6.5 kW was granted.

Re: RePack Phase 8 started
WHNE recently aired this message:
"WTVS is going to be testing their new transmitter. WHNE will be off the air during these tests."
This better not interfere with my Red Green. Better yet, WHNE should air their 12 streams on VHF 3 during WTVS's tests. Maybe there are factors preventing them from doing so.
Fun fact: WTVS was the first PBS station to air The Red Green Show in America

Re: RePack Phase 8 started
The big 3 are up testing tonite. WWJ on RF21, WXYZ on RF25 and WDIV on RF32.
Signals are strong near Ypsilanti and seem very steady. I would guess less LTE interference in the 500MHz band.
WHNE is hard at work getting the new transmitter ready for March 13th.

Ah yes, March 13. Why couldn't it be scheduled for July 34 or February 48?

When it comes to the whole Friday the 13th thing, I'm not superstitious, or even a little stitious.
This has derailed quickly
But in all seriousness, I, as a Christian, pay no attention to superstition.

Re: RePack Phase 8 started
I haven't noticed WUPW Fox36 Toledo doing any testing yet. Isn't this the last go-around for everybody to vacate the premises of the once massive UHF TV band that has gone to sh**?
Re: RePack Phase 8 started
WUPW is a Phase 8 transition, March 13 cutover. The "Last Go-Around" Phase 9 is May 1, and, closing it out, Phase 10, July 3.
Re: RePack Phase 8 started
So I guess that means they can't test on 3 yet?
It's a good thing Heartland live streams and that all 300 Red Green episodes are on the Red Green YouTube page.
Anyone see if WLPC has started testing yet? Or if 23, 31, or 38 are gonna start testing soon?
Honestly, WHNE should have went to VHF 2, then they'd be able to have a non directional pattern, but on 3 they have to null it to the south to protect WGGN. Maybe I'm letting my OCD go out of control. These last few months have been tedious and anxiety filled.

WADL is announcing Noon on 3/13 for their switch. So, everybody will be turning on their new channels at very different times, and days (WXYZ on 3/7). That sure isn't very viewer-friendly.

Re: RePack Phase 8 started
still on Channel 56 UHF?
Re: RePack Phase 8 started
WTVS is RF 43 and can't move or test on RF 20 till WHNE moves off RF 20 to RF 3
Re: RePack Phase 8 started
WHNE has announced (via their Facebook page) that they will periodically be off-air to permit WTVS to test on RF20.
"Attention WHNE Viewers! WTVS is testing their new transmitter on our current channel location today [3/4] and tomorrow. WHNE is currently off the air for this test and will also be off the air tomorrow during the same time period. Thank you for your patience during the channel shuffle. The dust should start to settle once March 13th comes and goes."
