We've been covering this here for months, Chris Warren even teased Townsquare's visit.

What's the situation with WIAA?

One thing the Ticker got wrong: Traverse City-Cadillac-Petoskey is not the 120th ranked radio market. It is, however, 120th for TV markets.

I thought WIAA had a backup site from Interlochen.

Here's what WIAA's STA filing said:
"DURING A HDTV ANTENNA REPLACEMENT ON THE SAME TOWER AS OUR WIAA FM BROADCAST, OUR ANTENNA EXPERIENCED A MAJOR FAILURE. WE ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO BROADCAST, EVEN AT LOW POWER DUE TO A VSWR OF 5.2. WE ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED TOWER CREW TO PERFORM THE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS TO THE ANTENNA SYSTEM SO THAT WE CAN GET BACK ON THE AIR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE."

WOLW and WGCP, which broadcast on the same tower, weren't affected.

I just heard Terry Ray on 'KLT mention that 93.5 will be a simulcast of 97.5 starting at midnight. She also said there may be a third station added.(96.7 WRGZ maybe?) 98.9 is currently silent.

Also WMKT is now broadcasting on their new translator at 103.3.

96.7 WRGZ would make sense since it and 99.3 WATZ have a fairly large overlap. Is WMKT still broadcasting on 102.3 as well?

Re: Updates ... WIAA 88.3 Interim

Unread post by statmanmi »

Hi All,

While looking up information for another thread update I completed, I came across the WIAA STA filing from February noting that they have an interim solution in place for 88.3 MHz on the Harrietta tower. Excerpt:

WIAA OFF THE AIR FROM 12/16/2019 (SEE FCC FILE NO. BLSTA - 20191223AAL FOR SILENT STA)UNTIL 2/3/2020, WHEN THE LICENSEE WAS ABLE TO RESUME OPERATIONS WITH REDUCED POWER. IT IS ON THE AIR WITH A SINGLE NICOM BKG77 BROADBAND FM CIRCULARLY POLARIZED ANTENNA AT 750 FT AGL WITH A TPO OF 850 WATTS. IT NEEDS THE REDUCED POWER AUTHORITY UNTIL THE WEATHER PERMITS THE TOWER CREW TO ASCEND, IDENTIFY AND REPAIR THE ISSUE WITH THE MAIN ANTENNA.

They've also updated their own website with this information:

https://www.interlochenpublicradio.org/ ... arily-1055

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi
