CHOK flips back to Country

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

CHOK flips back to Country

Unread post by ChrisWL1980 »

The new playlist seems almost like a Nash Icon type format - lots of '80s and '90s throwbacks, less bro and boyfriend country (though it is still there). It's like a mix of their sister stations in Wingham and Chatham. I would have preferred an all-classic format if they had to go back to country, but it's a step up from Trash FM and WYCD anyway.

As far as the music goes on CHOK it has been like this.
1988 - 1992 : Adult Contemporary or MOR (not sure which one)
1992 - 2007 : Oldies
2007 - 2013 : Country
2013 - 2019 : AC Gold and Classic Hits
I can remember hearing quite a bit of Country on CHOK up until 1988. The reason they stopped playing it back then was because 1110 CKJD became
1110 CKTY with full time Country.
Outside of music they had news and sports coverage which continues to this day.

I think they have also made an adjustment to K106.3 to move the station closer to a true Classic Rock position? Looking back over the past four hours worth of music, I see absolutely no titles from the past 15 years. Mostly 70s & 80s with a handful of "safe" 90's titles and 1 or 2 very early 2000's titles thrown in.
106.3 has been like that for a while, at least it was in the summer. As for CHOK, they must feel Country is the hit format (again). I don’t recall many if any Sarnia businesses advertising on WSAQ.
