Debate and discussion of current events and political issues across the U.S. and throughout the World. Be forewarned -- this forum is NOT for the intellectually weak or those of you with thin skins. Don't come crying to me if you become the subject of ridicule. **Board Administrator reserves the right to revoke posting privileges based on my sole discretion**
"In the spirit of complete openness, part of me is also discouraged. The countless hours I have spent in the investigation of Russian election interference and the impeachment inquiry have rendered my soul weary. I will never understand how some of my colleagues, in many ways good people, could ignore or deny the President’s unrelenting attack on a free press, his vicious character assassination of anyone who disagreed with him, and his demonstrably very distant relationship with the truth.
"As has been observed, however, to some degree he is a symptom and not the cause or at least the only cause. The truth is that civic discourse began degrading before him. At times, it is as though there are no rules or boundaries. Success seems to be measured by how many Twitter followers one has which are largely gained by saying increasingly outrageous things, the more personal the better. There are simply too many hyperbolic adjectives and too few nouns. Civility is out. Compromise is out. All or nothing is in."
And this board is the perfect example. A sitting US senator is referred to as a “vile pig” with racist images and memes. Duly elected POTUS - past and present - are berated and name called with no respect for the person or the office. Politicians use to refer to the “gentle lady/man across the aisle” now they’re “corrupt Socialists who will ruin the country” or “money grubbing criminals just in it for themselves”.
Elections don’t solve the problem just exacerbates it. The 52% winner declares a mandate to eliminate everything her/his predecessor did with their 4% “landslide”.
No solution from me today. Just wanted to vent. Thanks for reading. Comments (polite discourse please) welcome.

And probably many others. Rep Danny Heck.

There were no racist images or memes in the Kamala Harris thread. I'd ask you to look up the meaning of vile, but since you'd rather take veiled shots at me, vile means "morally bad, wicked". Admittedly, the term pig is a derogatory term for law enforcement, but I contend that Kamala has earned the term: https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-go ... 75207.html
I apologize if you feel I was taking a "veiled shot" at you, or misinterpreted your image or meme. And by no means do I wish to defend Senator Harris or her policies or past.
But please understand my point - How does "vile pig" advance anyone's agenda? Would you call her that to her face? Does it chance anyone's mind, solve any societal problem? Why is name calling become an appropriate method of political campaigning or am I just an old stick in the mud stopping everyone from having "fun"?
The Public Agenda–USA Today–Ipsos poll released Thursday found that 90 percent of respondents said that it is important for Americans to try to seek common ground with political foes. Another 83 percent said that they think divisiveness is a "big problem."
