Re: Roop Raj: social justice warrior
I haven't watched local news for years simple because they have turned into more social commentary shows than simply reporting the news objectively.
Re: Roop Raj: social justice warrior
Remember when Roop Raj was a great reporter?
Re: Roop Raj: social justice warrior
He had every right to go back at the idiot who played the "I don't know where you are from" crap. Sadly this is todays world
Re: Roop Raj: social justice warrior
I have noticed that channel 2 in general and some of the on air talent seem to be getting more comfortable letting personal feelings (political leanings)slip into the broadcast. Often its just a look, a purposeful pause or a quick wry comment. Its not always noticeable but they're there.
Re: Roop Raj: social justice warrior
It's a pity that most of these folk go right to the racist angle when there might not have been anything really implied. I've used that same statement ("I don't know where you're from, but...") to lots of friends and acquaintances even though I probably knew exactly where they were from (and most, were from my same hometown!!).
It's better than than starting out saying "Are you from frickin' Mars??"

Re: Roop Raj: social justice warrior
It was a grandstanding overreaction. But evidently it played well to the masses. The comments on the newspaper articles about this were much more positive towards Roop than the comments on this thread.lovinlife101 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 2:22 pmIt’s a person of color’s responsibility to be offended by something that may not be intended to be racist.km1125 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 2:06 pm It's a pity that most of these folk go right to the racist angle when there might not have been anything really implied. Roop needs to stop taking himself so seriously. Sticks and stones . . . ? (I'm sure, since he's 100 pct American, born here, etc etc, he's heard that one.)
Re: Roop Raj: social justice warrior
I remember JoAnne Purtan reading and laughing at mean tweets and viewer hate e-mail about her, to us in the newsroom.
Re: Roop Raj: social justice warrior
It's a visual medium, right? Why shouldn't viewers give her feedback on what looks good and what doesn't?? I fully agree with the viewer who told her the high-waisted look does NOT look good on her. Many women can not pull that look off well, though it may appeal to some. Tolerable for a "different look" when just some of your wardrobe may include it, but is annoying when it becomes the bulk of the collection.lovinlife101 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 4:46 pm Here we go again.
Another on-air talent using news-time to call out a viewer.

He was giving her honest feedback. He easily may have been outnumbered though, and if that was the case she should have just said "thanks for the input, but I think I'll stick with what I have."

Pretty much. If you're on TV, being able to handle criticism about looks, wardrobe, personality etc. comes with the job. Male or female.km1125 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 11:45 amIt's a visual medium, right? Why shouldn't viewers give her feedback on what looks good and what doesn't?? Looks like Fox2 is doubling down. A slow news weekend means making up a news story from a Twitter fight.

Why are we surprised by this? The majority of reporters and anchors on the news want to be famous. They’re not in news because they’re journalists or they want to inform the people. If they actually wanted to do that, we wouldn’t have all the ridiculous commentary given by said reporters and anchors surrounding any given situation.
A female news anchor calling attention to herself because a viewer sent her a nasty email isn’t a “social justice warrior for women,” she’s pandering for a larger audience hoping it’ll go national. MOST, if not all, on camera personalities will get negative, and positive, feedback. Not everyone is going to be adored by the audience that is watching.
