Uncensored music on 94.5 WXKR
Uncensored music on 94.5 WXKR
Heard them play a track on Mandatory Metallica, that was uncensored. Kinda took me by surprise. Not sure if it was overlooked or totally intentional.

Which song? Other than the cover of "So What" nothing in Metallica's discography is really that blatantly obscene, though you do hear a few f-bombs here and there.
Re: Uncensored music on 94.5 WXKR
That should have been called in. Then they could checked the "logger" for the track, to verify. Same happened when "Pea Pod" filled music on Star. 3 F-bombs in a row. Pea Pod was lucky nobody called the FCC and he had not been fired. This would have been about 4 yrs ago.

I don't want to see anyone fired, or fined. However, The FCC could come knocking and no one wants that.

For decades, WMMS played Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain at 1:30am on Sunday morning. Then WNCX picked up on that tradition in the late 1980s, playing it at 11:50pm every Saturday night, which continues to this day.
Not one complaint has or had ever been lodged against either station for the big ol’ S-bomb at the end of the jam’s spoken word intro.
As it should be.

The FCC is too understaffed and overtaxed to investigate this stuff anymore. The Detroit office, that deals with this stuff is way to overworked to monitor things, like ABC radio had with "radar weeks" on net spots.
Re: Uncensored music on 94.5 WXKR
Personally, I don't mind the S-bombs. I think our government needs to get out of the 1600's on this one. It's now normal language. For God's sake, we are not Australia! They homogenize all airwaves and makes some dayparts have higher fines, including overnight. FCC, loosen up!Myron Falwell wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 6:05 pm For decades, WMMS played Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain at 1:30am on Sunday morning. A song I always loved... I'm guessing you're referring to the line "... or drown in my own shit".Myron Falwell wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 6:05 pm For decades, WMMS played Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain at 1:30am on Sunday morning. On that key... I do occasionally hear Eminem's "Without You" straight as well. And Everlast's "What it's Like" too. I personally don't think an F bomb here or there or especially "shit" is that big of a deal in 2019. Not that I want to listen to "obscene" radio all day, mind you, but we've had "Who are You", "Money" and "Jet Airliner" played straight for decades. I kinda laugh when I hear those edited single versions on classic rock radio these days.

So, they actually play Maggot Brain every day at the exact same time? That's just weird!Myron Falwell wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 6:05 pm For decades, WMMS played Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain at 1:30am on Sunday morning. Back then Safe Harbor protected stations. Does Safe Harbor still exist?Myron Falwell wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 6:05 pm For decades, WMMS played Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain at 1:30am on Sunday morning. Big tradition at WMMS 70s-90s under John Gorman. WNCX always the copycat.Ed Joseph wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 11:15 amSo, they actually play Maggot Brain every day at the exact same time? Gorman now plays it every Saturday at midnight on his internet station, www.oWOW.radio. And of course the FCC doesn't govern 'net radio.

I keep thinking about the bit Lewis Black did about that halftime show. (A bit dated, but it always makes me laugh when I hear it.)MWmetalhead wrote:I absolutely hate it when commercial radio station butcher song lyrics to edit out curse words.
The prior method (pre-Janet Jackson's titty) of bleeping out a small portion of the word was fine. Now, we get to endure weird sound effects or awkward alternate lyrics.
So, in closing, I'd like to say:
- FUCK YOU, MTV (who produced that Super Bowl halftime show)
- FUCK YOU, Janet Jackson
- and especially, FUCK YOU, Justin Timberlake.
A short snippet, for your amusement:

I agree wholeheartedly with what you said, MW. I don't see why in 2019 things need to be censored, PERIOD. It's pointless to me in this day and age, especially with all the weird shit that's gone on...
