The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

DX Dec 11, 2018

Unread post by ZenithCKLW »

Last night I received WFSC 1050, a station from south-west North Carolina. Radio-locator says its nighttime ERP is 153 watts nondirectional. I received this from Livonia. Knowing there are plenty of closer and more powerful 1050's, it's crazy to me that a very distance, 153 watt station powered through the rest.

Also, less significantly, I received directional 50kw CKGM 690 for the first time, without WNZK and WLW splattering all over it.

Receiver used was a Zenith Royal 400 transistor radio. Were there any other interesting DX catches last night? Aside from being winter time with longer night time hours, is there anything unusual going on in the atmosphere allowing stronger DX catches?

I don't dabble much on AM, but CKGM has a strong signal on the west side of the state at night

You need a semi to haul around all those semiconductors.

Remember the giant speaker in the opening scene of Back To The Future? That.

The thing weighs more than a tube Hallicrafters.

Yes that’s it. Leather case too. It’s my favorite. Very sensitive. Batteries last forever. Perfect condition too.
