Another example of someone who became the very thing he fought against.

I wonder if the thought of trade normalization with the U.S. just killed him?
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Castro was a true champion for the working class. We need more leaders like him.

Re: Fidel Castro dead...
Well, well, well. The old Soviet Union's little apprentice finally croaks.
"KGB Inc" propping up the brutal island dictator in exchange for his cooperation against the US at every turn fades further into bloody history.
The revolutionary with the gift of glorious rhetoric from his soapbox (cigar box?) had the masses eating out of his hand. Until they realized too late that they were applauding a fraud and a con - who ended up taking away their freedoms - doing away with anyone who opposed his "art of distraction", pro-nepotism, anti-free-press style of running Cuba - into the ground.
Viva, Fidel Castro! Long may he remain a LESSON to all people who look to one charismatic strongman to care about their lives and families - more than his own.
Just another gasbag con artist gone to hell.

And yes, Fidel cared more about himself and his family than those non family members (millions) under his iron rule. Some of his family saw the light and opposed him. But those who licked his boots and kept worshiping him were embraced and rewarded.

None at all. Castro's revolution liberated the Cuban people from the brutal Batista dictatorship. I recall in the weeks following the triumph of the revolution, Castro was regarded by Americans as a hero. He appeared as a guest on Ed Sullivan's TV show. It was only after he started nationalizing the property of wealthy Americans that he became a pariah. He took their mansions and converted them to schools and hospitals for the Cuban people.
The U.S. trade blockade against Cuba was a foreign policy blunder. It forced Cuba into the Soviet camp and took the world to the brink of nuclear war.
If the U.S acts according to precedent, U.S. military forces will be landing on Cuba's beaches within days.

And eventually he became a dictator which kind of negated everything you said above...Turkeytop wrote:NS8401 wrote:Hopefully there is at least a shred of sarcasm there?Turkeytop wrote:Castro was a true champion for the working class. We need more leaders like him.

I would, any day, prefer to have a leftist Castro, than our extreme right, pro-capitalist Trudeau or your extreme right fascist and racist, Trump.
