T-Town radio predictions 2023

Unread post by Deleted User 15835 »

I am guessing not a lot but here goes..

1. Party 103.3 does NOT last, Fusion sells the translator to a religious broadcaster OR Just to go really off the deep end, 107.7's owner purchases it, adds an HD-2 signal to 107.7, launch Varity hits on 103.3.

2. 730am/106.9 is sold to another religious broadcaster, maybe 3ABN

4.105.5 tweaks once again, brings The WWWM call letters back and The Star 105 name

5. 98.3 flips to AC or Varity hits

The 1st one is the most likely, the rest, not holding breath.

Here's my take:

1. 100.7 goes from ESPN to CBS Sports Radio in an effort to try and get ratings up.
2. Q105 gets axed for Urban AC, Oldies or The Zone 5.0
3. 730/106.9 gets sold to another religious broadcaster
4. 93.5 cuts most (if not all) 70s tracks and replaces them with 90s
5. iHeartRadio makes more cuts. 1370 and 104.7 both go full satellite-fed, and Rick Woodell becomes the only local on air talent, as 101.5's morning drive host and 103.7's afternoon host.
6. 1370 picks up Lions games.

Here are my predictions:

1. Party 103.3 won't last and will be replaced with another religious station.
2. 105.5 becomes a 90's and 2000's hits station similar to their sister station in Dallas that recently flipped. The station either keeps the Q105 name or brings back Star 105.
3. WRQN adds more 90's, but the 90's is mostly rock and softer hits, whereas 105.5 will be more pop and rhythmic.

Toledo radio hasn't changed fundamentally format-wise in over 10 years, so I'm not expecting much for 2023.

LOL what? CBS Sports Radio is terrible. They forced it onto the Ticket when it was launched in 2013 and it flopped so badly they wound up switching back to ESPN. Where do some of you come up with this stuff?

I could see your prediction for iFart becoming correct though, only with Rick being let go and Meghan Mick being the only local on air "talent" left.

It was announced that Ragtime Rick's Saturday Morning brokered music show on WCWA will move to 100.7 the Ticket starting next Sunday. Wonder if WCWA will get rid of all brokered shows and run more Fox Sports Radio.

Rick's always been popular with the River's audience, and it would be a mistake to get rid of him IMO. IHeart in Toledo is down to Rick, Meghan, Fred, Scott Sands and Scott Miller, plus the local sports crews and the brokered shows and that's it. WSPD should at least have one local talk show for political opinion like most other cities have.

Or more of the gambling talk they currently run at night, now that sports betting is legal in Ohio

CBS Sports Radio is substantially better IMO, ESPN Radio has been largely terrible over the past few years. The only decent show now is Keyshawn, JWill and Max. Besides, Cumulus will try to make any failing format work. Q105 or Thunder Country anyone?

Yeah, because those worked out great. Keep playing fantasy radio.

What the hell does CBS Sports Radio have besides Jim Rome farting his way towards retirement with a substantially watered down version of his 90s shtick? ESPN at least has live baseball and basketball playoffs.

Back when CBS Sports Radio launched in 2013, ESPN Radio still had a decent lineup with Mike & Mike and Colin Cowherd, who despite being polarizing, was popular. Outside of Jim Rome, there was nothing compelling about CBS Sports Radio. Their night guy was Scott Ferrell, who has one of the most annoying voices I've heard. I'm not sure how good CBS Sports Radio is these days.

Ferrell on the bench? First time I heard him I thought he had bronchitis.

Scott Miller works from his home in Akron, is only in Toledo one day a week. Is that still local?
