Re: WIOT
It was supposedly good in the 70s and 80s and just like WTOL news and the Blade built brand loyalty among a populace that largely hates change, and has been cruising on it ever since.
Re: WIOT
In the 70's WIOT had the highest share of an AOR station in USA in a medium market (which we still were then). Local, actually took phone calls, wore gloves to play the LP's, it was unique until Reams sold the place, even WCWA had a decent local presence with live easy MOR music jocks at the 'turn of the century', again, until Clear Channel took it to sports and killed off Jim Brady's (Felton) hard work and most local programming except for the Saturday morning brokered time.
Re: WIOT
WIOT hasn't been the same since mid-80s to mid-90s when they actually had talent. Mark Benson, Jeff Lamb, John Ballentine, Will Worster, Don Davis, Lyn Casey, Mohammed, Michael Young, Terry Sullivan (who now appears on Powerbomb Wrestling with Norm Wamer). But they also had a weird audio processing bug at that time that made the left channel sound like a live mic was next to a boiler in the basement ...
Re: WIOT
The TX should be calling the Engineer. Something could have been wrong with the silence sensor or they lost power and the sensor blipped. Could it also be a microwave issue to the TX? XKR always had this issue, which is why they use internet (at a much lower bitrate) now to switch to, if the microwave bugs out. Then again, with all types of cellphones and ip phones, those can be shut off, unlike landlines. So many variables. But blame the company. They need to have many backups in place, like a secondary person to check a tripped alarm. I know this stuff myself, personally, as my background in this broadcast IT stuff is quite extensive.
FYI, The sat receivers do that same thing. Sounds like complete $hit!
And Fred L: Don't tell us your stations are not satellite. We can easily hear that Kiss is.
