Darrin Rockcole

Unread post by wsummers »

Darrin Rockcole longtime morning WILX meteorologist is no longer with the station. He gave no explanation on his Facebook page other then stating he plans to stay in the Lansing area. David Andrews wished him a happy retirement on his Facebook page, however, since Darrin is only 54 it seems suspect.

WILX and sister station Fox47 seem to be a revolving door as of late for on air talent

Here’s what WILX is reporting. If not pushed out or a contract dispute, I hope it’s not a health issue.

I thought it seemed suspect, too. Unlike the WILX story, Darrin's Facebook post didn't use the word "retire." In reply to some comments on his post, he said that it was his decision, but considering that he also says he'll be looking for another job (not in broadcasting, according to a comment), this isn't complete retirement. It also seems unusual that this announcement would come the day after his last day. I mean, anchors who have been there for 2 years get a sendoff on their last broadcast and the video is posted to social media. Maybe he didn't want all that, but it all seems a bit strange.

He admits in those same comments that it was sudden but he didn’t want to cry on the air

He will land on his feet. He's a smart guy and a hard worker. There may have been things happening behind-the-scenes that people don't know about.

Emily Wahls left WLNS last Friday, which means both 6 and 10 have lost their morning meteorologists within the past month.

Her tweet announcing her exit: https://twitter.com/EmilyWahls/status/1 ... 9053382656

She said she's planning to stay in the area, but to add even more intrigue to the story, Darrin left this reply when someone commented that Emily left WLNS on one of his Facebook posts: "I don’t know for sure, but I think she may pop up on another station soon."

Could she be hopping over to WILX? Seems possible.

She shared today on Twitter a photo of a green screen that looks amazingly the same as the one in the WILX studio. Certainly looks like WILX hired her away from WLNS as their replacement for Darrin Rockcole. Must not have had a non-compete clause...as for Darrin Rockcole he is now working for Young Chevy in St. johns.

Tim Staudt announced on his radio show on Monday that Emily indeed is joining WILX as the chief meteorologist. Seeing how everything still seems pretty secretive about it, I wonder if he let the cat out of the bag sooner than he was supposed to.

New ad says without saying that WILX chief meteorologist Emily Wahls will begin on the air at WILX on August 30th after her one year of non-compete ends. I assume she will take over mornings.
