Big holiday week for local sports… with Michigan-Ohio State, Michigan State-Penn State, high school football playoffs at Ford Field, and the embarrassing Lions.
And yet, 25-66 management thinks a one person sports department is sufficient. When we don’t cover local sports, we send a message to the communities that care about these teams that we just don’t care about our hometowns.
One of the many reasons our In Over Her Head News Director (who claims to care about sports since she was once a sports anchor) needs to go. But instead she’ll get props from regional news director Lame Michaelsen for keeping costs (and ratings) low.
There used to be a time when we had former sports directors Tom Eschen, Jeanna Trotman and current Sports Director Johnathon Deutsch — plus a whole host of photographers — who had the help needed to compete with 25-66.
Not anymore.
There’s a reason why sports betting is one of the top advertising categories currently. “The Game” will be one of the highest rated programs today. Thousands of high school fans will deal with snow-slicked roads to go to Ford Field to watch high school football players compete for state titles.
But none of that matters to the bean counters at the Corporate Death Star. They only care about reducing the expense side of the budget.
