All local TV stations struggle to find newscast producers, the men and women behind the scenes that organize and write the newscasts you see.
However, over the past couple of years, an incredible amount of news producers have come and gone from 25-66. The reasons? Low pay, high stress, no support from management, little training, no advancement opportunities.

When you can make more at Subway down the street, why would you bother being a news producer?
Sinclair, its local bean counters and yes men/women news directors are to blame for driving many good journalists out of this profession. If you think local news is meaningless, this is the reason why.

Lack of Producers
Re: Lack of Producers
Where’d the producers go? Where did the applicants for any position at a station go?
Re: Lack of Producers
BTS: for the most part they’re getting out of the business. A lot from 25-66 have gone into public relations. Some have joined much bigger markets after a year or two in the business only to find out that they don’t have the experience to deal with the stress or pressure in places like Detroit. Either way, there’s a big brain drain in these key positions. You don’t have any institutional knowledge either in front or behind the camera. And producers who are being asked to produce more and more news are literally now show stackers because they don’t have the time or help to create meaningful journalism. It’s not the producers’ fault… it lies with managers who try to produce news on the cheap.
Re: Lack of Producers
It seems Sinclair is either (a) too cheap to pay its electrical bill or (b) is also in serious need for broadcast engineers.

And thanks for everyone who DMed me. Took a few days off to celebrate the wedding of a couple of great friends, colleagues and wonderful human beings. In my absence, no one stepped up to call out Sinclair’s BS. That’s why I’m back, baby!
