Abc12 promoting racism?

Unread post by Kincade3072 »

I see abc12 is starting a new segment on Thursday about race. (Black lives matter segment) Don't all lives matter and not just black lives? Why would you just promote one race? Way to go channel 12

Black activists have been saying for decades that the racism against them is "systemic," and therefore white people cannot understand it, nor do they experience it. Society had agreed to a slight extent, but now the sentiment is much more widely accepted. So, there you go.

There a simple solution if you’re upset over the segment... watch another channel. If 12 wants to do segments on racism, good for them. I’m sure there’s an audience and enough stories to tell. If they want a lead on a story, they should do a story on systematic racism in broadcast ownership groups. Look at the lily-white board of directors at Sinclair Broadcast Group as exhibit A.

No sinklair your not getting my point, I'm saying it shouldn't just be about 1 race mattering more then another. In order for us to all come together stop promoting racism. Maybe you should go to work for abc12 as you can sympathize with thier way of doing things. As you dislike working at sinklair so much. Try working at abc12 and for Grey media, and you'll realize your problems are small with your station .

Kincade: I’m not missing your point, I’m dismissing it. Doing stories on race doesn’t put one race above another. It only points out some of the historical, systematic racism that persons of color face.

It’s really not that much different than doing a story on the wage gap and glass ceilings faced by working women. Or are you suggesting that a woman’s place is in the kitchen?

Helping level the playing field for everyone in our society, regardless of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, etc. is about raising everyone up.

Why not have a white entertainment network also?I have a black friend and he asked me what I thought about black lives matter, I simply said media is making it even worse. And he says all lives should matter not just black lives. Smart guy

When you start out with “I have a black friend”, you clearly don’t get it.

Having a black friend is much different than actually living as a person of color.

As I said, if you dislike 12’s effort, change the channel. Here at 25-66, we just give lip service to diversity. You’ll fit right in.

Ok sinklair, since you know everything what should I call my friend who is black? A person of color, or an African American friend? Please I value your insight. Lmao I'm sure your fellow coworkers at Pierson Rd really value your opinion.

Or 12 can just run a story that looks at the impact of race here in mid-Michigan. And if it upsets your delicate sensibilities, you can go back to your whites-only meeting. I didn’t realize a fact based news story on race was sooooo controversial. Maybe you can learn something by actually hearing another perspective — consider it your new (second) black friend.

Really? You want to suggest that a person of color be limited to fetching coffee? I think I’m good with the job I have.

What I’m not so good with... the bad management at 25-66. Maybe if we had some diversity/new perspectives in the management ranks, morale would improve on Pierson Road.

Don't be so sensitive sinklair, and fetching coffee doesn't have anything to do with race, there's white coffee fetchers to.

We all see your statement for exactly what it is...

If you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem. You can choose which side you’d like to be on when it comes to eliminating systemic racism.

But I will again assert that 12’s effort to talk about these issues is a good thing. The other stations should have the same courage. That being said, I’ll also be interested in the quality of the reporting. Does it go beyond basic talking points and gets to complexity of these issues and the real barriers facing our communities when it comes to education and healthcare access, economic success, etc.
