Biden FCC

Unread post by sinklair »

Sinclair’s very bad year could soon get a lot worse if President Biden’s nominees for the FCC are confirmed by Congress.

Biden has renominated Jessica Rosenworcel for FCC chair and Gigi Sohn for commissioner. Both have been vocal critics of Sinclair and how it has run its stations…

Rosenworcel says the record $48-million dollar fine levied against Sinclair following its failed purchased of the former Tribune group wasn’t nearly enough to send a message about the lies it told the commission.

Sohn has even gone as far as publicly stating that Sinclair is unfit to hold licenses to run TV stations.

While the Trump FCC largely shielded Sinclair from any true oversight, it appears the Biden FCC might actually leverage some of its power to prevent the Corporate Death Star from violating the law and (hopefully) start broadcasting in the public interest or face further fines, regulations or loss of its licenses.

Considering that some of Sinclair's stations (such as 25 and 66) are still reeling from last month's ransomware attack almost one full month ago, I second that emotion.

I thought $48million fine was reasonable for Sinclair Jessica can't open it back up Sohn can't take Sinclair's license away I think Sinclair will tread lightly with the FCC now that Dems will have 3-2 on The FCC. Kinda surprised it took this long to get Nom for the 3RD seat.

Strange support for Biden’s FCC nominee coming from OAN of all places…

Of course he does. Because Sinclair's loss (or even just the perception of Sinclair being a BIG loser) is OAN's gain!

Strange isn't the word - I'd go with "brazen".

Armstrong Williams, owner of 25-66, and Byron Allen, 12’s owner, likely won’t be having dinner anytime soon.

Both are coming out swinging over Gigi Sohn, President Biden’s pick for the FCC.

Conservative Armstrong says Sohn will kill minority media ownership:

The more liberal Allen says Sohn will only benefit minority media ownership:

Sohn is married to a woman, so we can expect some impossibly crass questions from Kennedy, Cruz, et al.
