1380 WGLM
I've had a tip that 1380 and the 101.9 translator have split from simulcasting 106.3 and debuted a new format, but I'm not within listening range to tell. Chris Kadlec or someone else in the area, can you confirm?

Re: 1380 WGLM
I am barely within listening range of any of these (at night anyway). 1380 is St. Louis and Fort Wayne at the moment and 101.9 is all Chicago here. But I can get M106.3 with Maverick quite well, where things are as usual, though the music is certainly heavier than usual, currently playing Foo Fighters.ChrisWL1980 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 11:33 pmI've had a tip that 1380 and the 101.9 translator have split from simulcasting 106.3 and debuted a new format, but I'm not within listening range to tell. But a quick search after that obvious failure shows the entry for 101.9 in the WTFDA database (which I am also an editor of) was updated five days ago by a reliable fellow DXer in Ontario showing the translator as country-format station "Back Roads". I would assume that is a pretty good clue. Absolutely no mention of anything anywhere on the Internet beyond that updated entry. So your tip is obviously correct. 106.3 just now gave an obviously-outdated ID for "you found the Ms - M106-3 and AM 1380". But I guess it's just the one M now.

They have been been doing a classic country format on 1380/101.9 since around mid July.

Thanks for the response, both of you. I passed the info along to John Rieger to be posted on dx-midAMerica.

John sure is persistent with keeping that site going. I've known John for 18 years and despite all the changes in his life, I don't think that site has changed a bit in the 26 years it has been online. Sure wish I had that kind of motivation. My own DX site still isn't even completely finished after... well, years...ChrisWL1980 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 3:45 pmThanks for the response, both of you. The AM will be "bonus land" for $5 spots, and throwaway programming like high school sports. Tens of listeners will be tuned in.
I remember when Jeff Kortes bought the Lakeville FM in a fire sale deal.

I appreciate the reminder about Jeff Kortes. He's forging a nice career in criminal defense in Grand Rapids, so his website reads. At one time, he had offices in 77 Monroe Center, at some spot below the Clear Channel GR radio cluster. Used to see him broadcasting HS games 30 years ago and he was happy doing that, too!

You folks forget Jeff owned WYBR Y102 in Big Rapids back in the late 90s as well. I think he sold that before letting WPLB go.

Great news. I often wondered where Jeff landed. Similar story with John Ralls, a guy I knew down in Pensacola. He was a lawyer, who always wanted to own a radio station.Trophyhead wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 2:06 pmI appreciate the reminder about Jeff Kortes. You can guess the rest.
