Fox 17 Meteorologist Eric Kostrzewa Leaving Station

Unread post by Localnewsisdead »

Fox 17 weekend meteorologist Eric Kostrzewa has announced he is departing the station.

From his Facebook page:

After almost three years in West Michigan, my time at FOX17 is coming to an end next weekend.

Knowing I’ll be saying goodbye to a place where I have grown so much as a person and as a Meteorologist has not been easy, but I am very excited about the next step in my life!

The biggest thank you goes out to everyone that been by my side to support me these last few years and for those of you that have welcomed me into your homes and your lives on a daily basis. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without you.

I can’t wait to announce where I will heading to very soon!

Not likely…47 Is the station almost no one watches. They have some interesting local features, but no breaking news as everything is prerecorded video. If you want news or more than a radio style weather report you watch 6 or 10. There is no indication they realize not many want their anchorless shows yet.

Scripps owned WSYM Fox 47 would make sense as they just recently started an in house news division (previously outsourced to WILX NBC-10). It is where Fox17 weekend anchor Sarah Grimmer wound up.

Presently, all five of WXMI's meteorologists are listed on Fox47News.com. My understanding is they currently provide pre-recorded Fox47 branded weather segments to WSYM that are then played back during the newscasts in the capital city. I can see the next step at 47 being an in house weather department as their fledgling news operation grows.

Well my prediction was nowhere near accurate. Erik posted on his FB page today that he will be on Weather Nation, which from what I can tell is a Denver based streaming service with programming in the style of what The Weather Channel used to be.

“Denver based streaming service” - perhaps a missed opportunity for Velasquez or, on the other hand, an expression of her long term commitment to the FOX17 team.
