Darla Jaye cancer battle makes national news

Unread post by Big-D »

Former Grand Rapids radio talent Darla Jaye has been fighting breast cancer. Her treatment included 30 days of radiation therapy. On the last day of radiation, it's tradition to ring the "cancer bell" at the hospital in Houston, Texas where she's being treated. Video of her bell ringing went viral when she broke the bell.

Darla Jaye came to Grand Rapids in 1989 as part of WKLQ's "Q Morning Zoo" program to replace Sarah Wilson, who had left the station. Jaye, along with Jay Allen and the late Rick Beckett dominated mornings on West Michigan Radio. Scott Winters replaced Allen when he left for WOOD AM. Beckett, Jaye, and Winters left WKLQ and moved to WGRD in 1995. Jaye left WGRD in 1997. Since then, she continued her radio career, eventually settling down in Kansas where she hosted a conservative talk show at KMBZ. She left radio and worked as the public information officer for the Johnson County, Kansas Sheriff's Department. Lately, she's been working in commercial real estate in Texas.

I hope Darla gets well soon. She will be on WFGR tomorrow morning with Scott Winters, who's filling in for JoJo Girard.
