Right to work ends Tuesday (13th)

Starting Tuesday in Michigan if you work under a CBA and are not currently in the union that ends Tuesday.
Sign up or find a new job that isn't unionized.
The texts and other notices where I work (Ann Arbor Public Schools bus driver, working under Durham Transportation) make it sound like come Tuesday if you aren't in the union you are out of a job till you sign up.

My understanding is that it does not apply to public govt employee unions, like teachers unions.

Privatized bus companies might be a different matter.

This is true. But Michigan is low on the Government employee per capita list. So it does potentially apply to a lot folks.
Certainly where I work because we are private sector.

Is any portion of Ann Arbor bus drivers in a union? School districts might outsource an entire function (like cafeteria services) as a cost save.

If there is no union for you to join, not sure if the new law has to force you to join a union.

Forced union membership is only a thing if there is an existing union. It is legalized theft.

We work for Durham Transportation. Teamsters local 243 is our union.
Yes clearly the law applies to existing unions.

People who don't want wages stolen have lost with this union handout.

I agree that it's dumb that the law was structured in such a fashion.
It didn't. Repeal is among the pile of laws that take effect 90 days after 2023 sine die - which is the 13th.

Correct but incorrect. Teachers are not considered a public government employees.

Federal, State, County and City employees, per the Janus vs. AFSCME decision, cannot be forced to join a Union. Supreme Court bought the BS argument that it’s “free speech”. Horse 💩. If you don’t want to pay Union dues to get higher Union wages, don’t apply there

Ah, that makes more sense now. Thanks for the info.

The MSM don't devote enough attention to the goings-on in Lansing. This one slipped under the radar on me.
Right to work being repealed was a rather big deal when it happened… maybe they should have devoted more time to the repeal date though.. but it’s just back to the way it was before 2012. The way the right to work law was structured was intentionally unfair to unions.
Donald Trump… In your guts you know he’s nuts.
