93.5 Howell
Ended up working in the Howell area and had a chance to scan the dial and tuned in 93.5 for a while during the day. Can't really tell the last time I listened to this station - but I will say it sounded really good. Any station that offers station tours on the website is a win in my book. When is the last time one of the big dogs offered that - it would be nothing but a bunch of empty studios. I actually liked the music mix - kind of a little bit of everything. Beatles, Dave Matthews, Michael Jackson and Abba etc - so a pretty good variety but it seemed to work - and it had awesome jingles as well.
Didn't know much about this station until this week, but sounds great. Best I can tell the station is locally owned and they even did news every hour. Good stuff.

Yep. About 7 or 8 miles from my house. LOCAL ownership. I went through there a couple of years ago when a friend of mine was PT there. It's nice to have around here.

I remember them years ago, as in the 90's. I had a partner in Howell and would visit. He was about 3 blocks behind the courthouse, about a block from a funeral home, just out of downtown. I almost applied there at WHMI, at the edge of town, near the High School. Only thing that kept me applying was the anti-LGBTQ2 vibe I got from the town, itself.Mega Hertz wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 5:47 pm Yep. About 7 or 8 miles from my house. LOCAL ownership. It seema like it's a little better here now, but definitely still has those tendencies. Once you get out into certain areas, yeah, it's still pretty "Hay, ma!", so it's probably better you didn't.

Looking at the station bios, they certainly have some talented people working there. I had the privilege of interviewing for the PD job at WHMI in the mid-'90s. I didn't get it (wish I had) but came away impressed with the station back then. Good to see local radio still being done the right way. Too few and far between these days.

Very live, very local and has a great presence in the community. Can't ask for much more.

Especially for a class A station...............
Re: 93.5 Howell
Although they do have problems with cochannel and adjacent and IBOC sideband interference from other stations and translators, their site is at a little over 900 feet AMSL. That is a good 250-300 feet higher than much of the Detroit Area. Some cochannel interference was reduced to the North when WRCI/WKQZ Midland moved from 93.5 to 93.3 and moved further away. So they do have a better line of sight to adjacent areas.
