A big thank you going out to WLLZ for the non-stop Van Halen music today. I haven't changed it once in the car. Some great deep cuts, forgotten AOR hits, and the warhorses.
But it begs the question:
I thought anything, and I mean ANYTHING that wasn't Jump, Panama, Runnin' With the Devil or And the Cradle Will Rock would cause instant tune-out, station would change formats, business would go out of business, mass suicide in the streets, world governments ending...all because they played Feels So Good instead of You Really Got Me.
I have to admit, I'm baffled.
But seriously, thanks Wheels. Much appreciated!

Re: VH Saturday on WLLZ
I have to agree. It was great as I was flipping through to actually hear some good tunes that would never otherwise see a radio spin here in Detroit. Van Halen alone has so many great tunes they could be playing instead of the 70's overplayed tripe they insist on playing in heavy rotation.
Re: VH Saturday on WLLZ
I just counted - Van Halen had 51 songs that charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 or Mainstream Rock chart.

Are you shitting me? FIFTY-ONE??? This just makes it all the more sad. Worse yet, VH always tested well, across the board. But they're just like any other artist now...narrowed down to the few tunes that are burnt out.

It is actually a little higher than that, but I excluded the "live" recordings that charted separately.
12 songs hit number #1:
-Oh Pretty Woman
-Jump
-Why Can't This be Love
-Black and Blue
-When it's Love
-Poundcake
-Runaround
-Top of the World
-Won't Get Fooled Again
-Don't Tell Me
-Humans Being
-Me Wise Magic
-Without You
Additionally, 11 more songs reached Top 10 status, so basically Van Halen has 21 Top 10 hits, over half of which reached #1. The vast majority of the remaining songs (26 of 30) were Top 40.

That F.U.C.K. album is absolutely LOADED with radio friendly songs WLLZ should be playing.bmw wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 10:47 am It is actually a little higher than that, but I excluded the "live" recordings that charted separately.

I've been all over that!
The bummer is that VH wasn't known for bonus songs and things like that. You got your 8-12 tracks per album and that was IT. I'm fairly confident they only had one non-album b-side for a single (Crossing Over from Balance).
