Re: 1270 to Begin
Waab's station launched a Twitter page on April 25. Aside from the opening post (which received 1 whole like - LMAO!!!), there have been no others.
This new station was to employ multiple local hosts. Caller driven local shows require call screeners and board ops, too. Then, there's the question of - how do ya pay all these people, not to mention the LMA lease payment??? That requires sale of advertising.
I have a sneaking suspicion advertisers aren't (weren't?) lining up out the door seeking to buy time.

Re: 1270 to Begin
Isn’t the station required to provide a board op as part of a brokered/lease agreement? Anything else would indeed come out of Parker’s pocket.
I’ve been out of town the past few days so thanks for the update. May 16th sounded like a strange day to plan a debut- wouldn’t a Monday make more sense?

Re: 1270 to Begin
A new day, and still no Sports Rap 1270.
Waab's buddies in the local media tripped over themselves to report on the upcoming launch of the station when the concept was announced last February or March.
Now that the promised launch date has come and gone without an actual launch, there's nothing but crickets.

Re: 1270 to Begin
Thanks for the update. I'll give it about a 10 percent chance of launching June 3.
Re: 1270 to Begin
Maybe it will be a symbolic Juneteenth launch?

Rob Parker = sports broadcasting's version of Toledo's Andrew Z.
If this project ever gets off the ground, I give it six months tops for life span.

Re: 1270 to Begin
Wow, Rob Parker, that's the biggest insult you can get, short of being Stern's nemesis "Pig Vomit" AndyZ - no see, 103.3 translator didn't last long.
Re: 1270 to Begin
There was a billboard up along the lodge near I want to say the Davison on the SB side. This was in the last couple of weeks. So there is some advertising for it.

Re: 1270 to Begin
Still no sign of Waab and friends on 1270. I'll check again this afternoon.
Maybe Waab can convince some politicians in Lansing to give him some grants to help subsidize his endeavor. They like to throw tax dollars down the toilet, after all.

Jim Rome on 1270 now. Still NO sign of Sports Rap Radio. Their website has a call-in number: 313-8894rap. So maybe they're getting close. I'll check tonight to see if Rob's national show with Chris Brusard is on 1270.

Re: 1270 to Begin
Their Twitter feed - which has a whopping 109 followers - has tweets from each of the past three or four days claiming today would be the launch date.
Yet, I'm still hearing BetQL programming on 1270; LMAO!!
If this Hindenburg of a radio station doesn't launch at 5PM today, who the hell knows if it'll ever launch.
Update: still no Sports Rap Radio! LOL. Their Twitter feed has been quiet today despite touting today as launch day just 24 hours ago. This might be a candidate for worst run radio station in Detroit market history.

The call in number is not in service. LOL!
Apparently gambling talk will be moving to HD3 if this ever launches.

Re: 1270 to Begin
That article is a bit inaccurate. The Bet has been heard on 97.1 HD3 for as long as it was on AM 1270, ever since 1270 dropped CBS Sports Radio. The only thing actually changing on the HD side is apparently that Sports Rap will be replacing the WWJ simulcast on 97.1 HD2.
