CBS Detroit Job Cuts

This is reason #493 why corporate ownership over local TV stations suck…

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8oEw9Ks/

You move to a new city only to have your job eliminated by the GM and HR via a “script”.

I don’t buy that the company is reprioritizing away from digital projects BTW.

"Dawson decided to keep the specific news station she worked for private."

She might not be familiar with FTVLive that finds out about anything including this topic today.

Yes, that does suck to the extreme to be let go after three months when it wasn't performance related.

Exhibit 427 why I could never work in an office… I think my brain melted hearing those HR people talk. Bullshit is not an overly tolerated thing for me and it shouldn’t be for anybody. She was a little too calm I think…. I mean… you spend the money to hire somebody and then “change strategies” 3 months later and get rid of that person… somehow that screams poor management. Then they guy says “I understand why you would have trouble processing that” which is a borderline nonsense answer…
Donald Trump… In your guts you know he’s nuts.

Cannot say I am shocked. They really failed to deliver the news for the community and followed the local metro script.

I have not watched cbs Detroit news in 4 months because when I had it on, it was a repeat of what fox2 or wdiv said.

CBS Detroit failed to deliver on the mission statement to give local on the block news like macomb county scanner does which you cannot get from Fox2, WDIV or WXYZ.

I would have thought CBS would have given 62 all of 2024 to make or break before making cutbacks, anyway corporate mandated layoffs are always expedite and are never well thought out. Just cut the easiest people to cut and deal with the fall out later.

I hope Paramont Global CEO Bob Bakish is one of the 7.8-million viewers who say her TikTok and realizes the impact of piss poor man agent and corporate strategy.

I’m sure CBS62 could have used a few more social media posts that got anywhere close to 7.8-million views.

Good for her. I hope she finds a better job down the road.

CBS can’t fix their long-running last place morning and evening newscasts… why did anyone think that brain trust could innovate a new local newscast that could compete in Detroit?

It was nice to see them giving it a try… but they half-@ssed it with MMJs, lesser talent, a shoe-string budget, gimmicks that never worked, a “News Director” who doesn’t know news, consultants that move the goals every three seconds, no spine to build a newscast that had any meaningful difference for viewers.

These budget cuts, I fear, are the start of a downward death spiral for CBS Detroit News.

I wouldn't be surprised if CBS ditches news once again in Detroit no one watches them.

CBS Detroit is now getting slammed for firing a reporter who dared criticize management for not being balanced in its coverage of the Israel-Gaza war:

A news conference was held yesterday to discuss his firing:

This is going to be messy… and the racial discrimination lawsuit is picking up national attention for CBS Detroit for all the wrong reasons:

He was fired for all of the anti-israel and jewish posts he shared and made on his instagram account. They were posts no true journalist would ever share or use as a journalist should remain non-biased and not share their personal opinions. Coverage of the war has been very well balanced and with Ibrahim present potentially skewed more to that side in the first place but he refused point blank to see it that way, including wanting his large story aired without any checks or vetting. Every story that is 10 minutes long should be looked at but he took offense to this.

It takes one look at his legal argument that he was the only arab-american person at the station to know he is lying through his teeth. Seems he forgot Sandra Ali, Ahmed Bajjey, or the 2 crew members he worked with. There are one or two employees who feel bad for him, but he was given months and months of help and stories that he conveniently forgot.
While other posts praising the station for their diversity and acceptance are deleted, he has not deleted this one yet. Seems to be rather opposite of his argument.

April Moss is on the other side of the political spectrum most likely, but the actions are similar. I still remember her last broadcast promoting her interview.

He is the Muslim equivalent to April Moss (anyone remember her?).

I support the station's decision to cut him loose.
That is really a perfect comparison. The fact both the Free Press and Detroit News took their social media posts down within 12 hours of publishing should show even more how many holes there are in his story.

If — as you suggest — he was an attention whore, he has been so for awhile. It’s not like one recently he woke up, rolled out of bed, and said ‘I’ve been a great worker at CBS Detroit, but today I’d like to really stick it to management and just make it all about me.’ He likely was that way from day one.

So is it his fault he’s an attention seeking whore… or does Paul and his minions have any responsibility for not properly vetting and doing background searches (maybe check out his previous social media posts) prior to bringing him (and others) on to the team?
