Jim Leyland once made a similar comment on Karsch & Anderson about "Tom in Royal Oak".dial-it-in wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 3:09 pm Nobody cares what Steve in Chesterfield thinks the Lions will do against the Chiefs.

Re: Stoney
As I flipped over from Dave and Chuck during a commercial break I just so happened to catch Stoney hanging up on Mr. Positive. Didnt even give him a chance to talk. As soon as the words "Mr. Positive" came out of his mouth Stoney gave him a big NOPE.
Stoney, you earned some bonus points with that one!

I remember that asshole calling into Beau the Jammer on 96.3 back in the early 90s. Guess he's really committed to the bit.
Re: Stoney
I remember when Mike Stone announced he was “retiring” from the daily grind of radio, the date was “after the Super Bowl”…so now it’s effectively after the Lions-less Super Bowl, is there an official 97.1 morning show retirement date set for Stoney?
Re: Stoney
I was wondering about that as well and turned on the rewind. Around 6:04 he mentioned that Friday is his last day.
Re: Stoney
Around 8:10 he mentioned that he will be on with Rico beginning March 1st.
Re: Stoney
That's interesting, what time slot, hopefully he takes over for Valenti but I doubt it.

Re: Stoney
He didn't mention a timeslot at that moment in the show.
Re: Stoney
Stoney mentioned last week that this is his final week as a regular morning host, but he will continue to be a presence around the station for two more years, subbing in for vacationers and filling in generally whenever they need a voice. I recall Stoney specifically said that he might be asked to fill in during the shorter evening shows after Valenti but before a Tigers or Red Wings broadcast.

Re: Stoney
Its incredibly hypocritical that NOW all of the folks on 97.1 are talking about how bad the Lions defense is and how it has to improve. I remember many calls during the season where the hosts would wave off any callers suggestions that the defense was inept and would end up costing the team because they wanted to focus on the positive.
Mahomes played great but the KC defense won that game.

The Bromance
Like I said earlier in this thread, I gotta feeling Stone will be a regular for years to come on Dan Miller's Sunday night sports wrap up.

Re: The Bromance
Gives me a flashback to the WDFN days of Stoney and Wojo where every Monday at 5pm they repeated banter like this which I actually found to be amusing after a while:
Wojo: "Stoney, I saw you on the sweater update with Davey Lew last night."
Stoney: "No, it's Vic Faust."
