Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
Staff was shown ratings information at a recent meeting in November. Newscasts, in the evening mainly, are beating WXYZ at multiple times and multiple days per week. Viewership seems to disagree with the assessment of this board. WXYZ is a distant 3rd without a doubt but to be that close within the 1st year is an accomplishment.

25-54?
Which ratings? They are designed so that every station can claim #1 for somebody.

I'm having a hard time believing an upstart is beating 'XYZ (as lousy as 7 is) without specific numbers/demos to back up the claim. Prove me wrong.OnTopic wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 8:53 amStaff was shown ratings information at a recent meeting in November. The stats were #3 rank 5x 12pm, 2x 4pm, 3x 5pm, 3x 11pm in the first entire week of November. Starting on the 6th. Demo 25-54.
Exact share number was not given.

Thanks for those stats. That's certainly not shabby. That means 62 is beating one of the three legacy news stations somewhat frequently in those dayparts in demo. Not a small feat!
(I do question, though, how many folks under the age of 40 routinely watch local or national TV news.)
Early mornings and 6PM perhaps are the weak spots. The 6PM show is my least favorite on the station. I do like the early morning show. I generally spend 5 to 10 minutes with 2 or 3 stations each morning.
I've not noticed traffic reports on the early morning show recently. Were those ditched, or am I simply tuning in at the wrong times?

Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

There is traffic but not anywhere close to the same amount as the legacy stations.

Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
I know nothing about the TV news business but why was the decision made to have the Southfield-Lathrup High School AV set brought in after the school closed down to be CBS Detroit's news set? Why won't CBS invest in a real, professional looking set? I know it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but how does a top 15 TV market not have a professional news set and instead uses one that's out of a high school or municipal cable access news room? Who from corporate lets that slide?
Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
I’d love to see Frank Turner sitting alongside Shaina.
Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
He’s gotta be kind of up there in age by now doesn’t he?
Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
Frank was a disaster when he was at WNEM in Saginaw. They let him go after some sort of run-in with management. Not sure WWJ would want the trouble. But it might be worth it just for his name recognition. With Turner’s history… geez, there has to be a better candidate.

That’s unfortunate… he is (or was) fairly likable on air…sinklair wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 9:43 pmFrank was a disaster when he was at WNEM in Saginaw. Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
Frank was not a disaster at WNEM. Management wanted him back at the main anchor desk. Frank wanted to stay solo because of Covid. Management let him go.
Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
Even if he sat in the chair for just a few years, Turner could bring some viewers that miss the legendary anchors this market has lost in the past few years (Carmen, Diana, Huel, Monica…) This is of course CBS would be interested in bringing in that older demographic. May help them establish some credibility though too.
