Too young indeed.
One of the few that were able to succeed at having fun with being a sports reporter without crossing over into becoming a parody of themselves.
Condolences to everyone that knew/worked with him.

Re: RIP Don Shane
His banter on the set with Billy was always a treat. They'd fight. They'd joke. I'll never forget the times Don would turn up in the studio with reading glasses on the tip on his nose, grey toupee, and Bill Bonds just losing it ...

Re: RIP Don Shane
Very sad -- only 70. I'd heard that part of the reason he retired at only 60 was because of Parkinson's and early onset dementia. (heard that from a fellow Detroit sports guy).
Re: RIP Don Shane
I wonder to what extent, if any, the two big hits he sustained, one on the sidelines of a football game & the other on a Dare Don segment, played a role in his health issues, which likely led to his early retirement.

RIP Donny. One of my favorites and a class act. Way too young
Re: RIP Don Shane
RIP to Don. Always enjoyed watching him back to his channel 4 days including his time as the original (I think) host of Sports Final Edition.

We were channel 7 watchers. Bill, Robbie, Don and Jerry. Another staple of my childhood. Stay SAFE, Don.

Very sad to hear, there were some rumors on his health over the years. He kept a low profile since he retired. Bummer to hear for sure
Re: RIP Don Shane
I remember that...it was great.
Sad to hear the news; all the great ones are leaving us. Rest in peace.

Wow. Still remember the commercial showing Don Shane joining the channel 7 team. Bonds and Rich Fischer are playing pool talking about "the new guy." Cue Shane taking his shot. All gone now. Time is a runaway freight train.

That’s really too bad. I miss the down to earth excited sports fan style delivery he had…
