WFDF 910 Is 100 Years Old 5-25-22 As A Commercial Station

Unread post by Ben Zonia »

Like many other pioneer radio stations, WFDF was preceded not only by the original commercial call letters WEAA, but was previously an experimental amateur station with the call letters 8ZH, licensed to Frank D. Fallain. Some say Mr. Fallain operated such a station even before World War I, but all such stations suspended operations during the War. In any event, it's 100 today no matter which way you define it.

I couldn't find any articles on any special observation by the station, as links were lost in articles about the World Flying Disc Federation, which has a logo worthy of a radio station bumper sticker.
"I had a job for a while as an announcer at WWV but I finally quit, because I couldn't stand the hours."

I doubt if more than 1 or 2 of the staff or personalities are aware of or care about its Flint-period history. It's connected to its first 80 years of history only by its call letters and frequency.
