Sane Rational Discussion...
Sane Rational Discussion...
without name calling or other cheap Internet tactics. Could that happen?
President Donald Trump, duly elected and inaugurated, does not fit the mold of a typical Washington politician. And in many cases, that is exactly what those voters wanted, no matter their party affiliation or spot on the political left to right spectrum. He's a marketer and a salesman, and his marketing techniques are brutal but effective, refined over the years in the cutthroat business of New York real estate. If you can put your competition out of business, customers will have to rent your apartments and buy your condos.
But as a politician, you can't put the "competition" out of business. You succeed as President by figuring out a way to get things done. Ronald Reagan worked with the other side to get tax relief. Bill Clinton did the same on welfare and business reform. Will President Trump figure out that he's going to have to alter his approach just a little if he really wants to accomplish his sweeping agenda?

Nice in theory, but the left, as well as some on the right, is more interested in taking him down than working on issues that are important for the betterment of the Country. This started on the day he was elected and continues through to this day. They will fight anything that might be perceived as a win for him. Say anything, even bald faced lies, that will make him look bad. You can't work with people like that.Radio Sucks wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 10:53 am without name calling or other cheap Internet tactics. Could that happen?

It's as if their power and control is the most important thing, Country be damned.
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.
Re: Sane Rational Discussion...
As someone on the left, i am not disagreeing here....however we can state THE EXACT SAME THING when Obama was elected. McConnel even stated that his goal was for Obama to be a one-term president.Bryce wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 11:22 am

Unfortunately, this is what this country has come to.
The censorship king from out of state.
Re: Sane Rational Discussion...
The left's attitude towards Trump is the right's attitude towards Obama, on steroids.
And I believe part (if not most) if the reason for this is that they are STILL, to this day, BITTER about Hillary losing in 2016, to of all people, Donald Trump. They are sore losers who have not accepted that Trump won fair and square. I think they're also bitter about for the second time in the past 2 decades their candidate winning the popular vote but losing the electoral college. And now they've convinced themselves in their own minds that Trump cheated.
Bottom line is, they view Trump as an illegitimate President and are treating him as such.

Re: Sane Rational Discussion...
I think he understands compromise as in his business dealings when a private citizen he had to do so in order to make deals. What he is not used to is the people on the other side of the table not being interested in moving forward but wanting to take him down however it has to be done. He is trying to run the country like a business and to a point that will work but he also has to understand that he needs to work the the folks across the aisle to really move forward.

So what's changed from Reagan and Clinton's time today? If Gary Owens was alive he would sue the person who wrote:Nice in theory, but the left, as well as some on the right, is more interested in taking him down than working on issues that are important for the betterment of the Country.

Re: Sane Rational Discussion...
It's not possible to have sane discussions. It starts with our leaders and both sides are certainly not good examples. Now you have Ms. Tlaib selling impeach the Mother Fucker t-shirts to help with her campaign (stay classy). How can we expect people to have sane discussions with this type of nonsense from both sides?? Radio sucks I think one thing that certainly has changed is the social media aspect of it -- seeing things instantaneously and every joe blow and their brother has the right opinion and screw everyone else that does not agree with them.

Re: Sane Rational Discussion...
I still think a big problem is the failure to differentiate between "fact" and opinion. People have such strongly held beliefs that they cannot fathom the possibility of them being less than an absolute truth.Mr.Transistor wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 1:48 pm It's not possible to have sane discussions. Likewise, we put too much faith in some people or sources. If we like someone, or WANT to believe them, we eat up every word.
I dont know if its idoltry, arrogance, both, or something else.
Social Media has made things worse due to the unhinged vitriol, hate, and general nastiness that permeates it. The guy who shot Steve Scalise reportedly went on sites like "Occupy democrats"-one of the most hateful, angry places on the web, that spreads and influences extreme partisan hatred to millions-and left a bunch of rants. Ive seen people saying "Im glad people like you are dying off" and cheering with glee when someone on the other side does die. But I think its a result of that inability to tell the difference between fact and opinion.Disagreeing with philosophical viewpoints does not automatically make one "evil".
But....people...especially younger ones...think that anyone who thinks differently isnt just factually wrong, but are bad people. I feel like thats where we, as a society, have set a dangerous precedent.
Also, we are an angry culture, set on painting someone else as an enemy. Some gays and atheists view devout christians as the enemy. christians view Muslims as the enemy. Unions and workers all scapegoat management and corporations. the poor paint the rich as enemies. Some blacks blame whites. Some whites blame blacks. We find scapegoats and make them an enemy we must defeat. How do you have civil conversations with people you (or someone who has influenced you) have convincingly set up as the source of all your problems?

Re: Sane Rational Discussion...
The problem is: we have a president who scares and alarms the majority of the US population, and the free world, especially our NATO allies.
And when humans feel their lives are in danger, or the lives of their loved ones, they react with fear. A fright that most often then morphs - into anger.
It is not a problem that a real estate mogul is competitive. There must be many highly successful men in real estate who are competitive - but they do not threaten or openly condone violence against other human beings.
Trump is the first President in my lifetime who steps over that behavioral line daily into violent words or behaviors. I believe it’s because of his mental illness. You perhaps do not agree. And instead consider his behaviors and words normal.
He uses violent language encouraging voters to punch other voters - and he promises to pay their legal bills.
He defends and praises brutal tyrants and dictators who hate America and have vowed to destroy us.
He refuses to condemn neo-Nazi murderous violence right here in America marching our streets chanting ‘Jews will not replace us!’
He expresses great fear and loathing of refugees, and their children - whom he traumatizes by locking them away from their captive parents - without proper humane medical care, hygiene, sleeping conditions, or food.
He calls poor nations “shithole” countries.
He insults gold star families, and selfless military heroes, brown people born in foreign countries, disabled persons, women, and African Americans.
He calls courageous American whistleblowers and those who help inform them “spies” and implies their executions.
He appears to have no empathy for brown and black persons, or anyone in California - who have survived obliterating disasters of Nature such as wild fires, hurricanes, etc.
He denies scientific evidence that should be heeded in order to act on the side of caution regarding climate change - and its lethal effects on Americans and the planet.
He demonstrates impotence toward the NRA, and disinterest in the victims and survivors of USA mass shootings - each week or month.
Also - because of his well documented weekly habit of constantly telling lies, he has placed most Americans and the world in the frightening position of not being able to trust him in a life or death situation. As he is the most powerful person on earth due to his job as CIC of the US military.
Combine all of this violence coming from a US president - along with his pride at his lack of manners, lack of respect for the Constitution and all laws, lack of human decency, lack of knowledge, lack of honor, lack of bravery, lack of morality, and you can understand why the majority of Americans and the world feel mounting fear over this man,. What he does, and what he might do.
These are my sane rational observations. Discuss them sanely and rationally with the majority of Americans.

Re: Sane Rational Discussion...
He said he’d remain in the White House, working all the time.
Not flying to Florida or New Jersey each weekend.
And not arriving for work each day at around 11am.
He said he wouldn't play golf often, like Obama.
He plays exceedingly more golf than Obama.
A hell of a lot more.
He said he’d “drain the swamp”.
Not load it with cabinet heads who want to dismantle or weaken each agency.
He said he couldn’t release his tax returns because they were under audit. Really? Last several years - all of them are still being audited.
He said he’d lost many friends in the 9/11 terrorist attack. Giant Lie!

Obama had unpopular policies, Trump has crossed the lines of decency, ethics, loyality, and foreign affairs (trade and security). It isn't possible to live as a nation of laws and try to make an apples to apples comparison.
I also enjoy when people start up with "can't we get along" when their candidate is losing in the political aspects of the job.
Name any President with this instability. I think he is an exceptional case and you can't make broad statements about sane or rational discussion when he is involved. The only ones who try are blind or lack reason themselves.
Here is a list of people on his top team whom were fired or quit as of this month...

For Kristian Trumpers are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.

BTW - when you hear or see certain words spoken or written regarding Trump’s behavior - or his own words - they are code words for symptoms of his mental illness.
unstable, erratic, chaotic, contradictory, lacking clarity, word salad, senility, tweet storm, teleprompter speech vs stream-of-consciousness riff, rambling, inattentive, demanding loyalty, unprepared, can’t let go any slight, psychopathic liar, “we fell in love” (re NK Kim), “Russia if you’re listening...”, “He told me very strongly it wasn’t Russia.” “I don’t see why it would be.” (Helsinki news conference), no “adults” in the room (with Trump), the Baby Trump giant balloon, acting like a Mafia boss, unadvised doubling down, denying he knows a longtime person in his life, germaphobe, guard rails (persons in WH), no empathy, no sympathy, no guilt, no shame, never saying he’s sorry.
And many more.
