craig11152 wrote: Sat Nov 12, 2022 4:10 pm As an independent my pick is Tulsi Gabbard .
I'd vote for her 3 times. Once with my own vote and twice with the votes of the people I bought my house from in 1994 who still get applications for absentee ballots twice a year at my address.
Fraudulent Votes for Gabbard. Has a nice ring to it. Or maybe Felons for Tulsi (because, I do think in most states, that IS a felony. Can DOJ request your IP address from MW?)

Don't know much about her, other than watching some of her rants on Truth Social. Not my cup of tea.
Maybe the DOJ should ask the city clerk why people who left the state 28 years ago are still registered to vote.
Maybe you should call the city clerk and ask that question? (I know, I'm double posting, but not letting you off the hook)
Sorry I thought such a moronic response was a joke.
Lets see....what would the city clerk do with such a semi anonymous call? Take them off the registry based on me dropping a dime?
I bought the house in 1994 from a med school resident moving on. How many people a year once connected to the University move on from Ann Arbor? Grad students, undergrad students, temporary positions?
There could could thousands or tens of or hundreds of thousands of "registered" voters who no longer live in the state since my anecdotal experience can't be isolated . Do you think my phone call, again semi-anonymous, is going to be some sort of light bulb moment for the city clerk?
What needs to happen is there should be an automatic purge every 5 years. If somebody hasn't voted a single time in their designated precinct for 5 years they should be purged from the registry.
If they haven't actually moved away then they need to re-register.
And because my idea of humor is evidently a bit obtuse for you I never actually intend to try to use those votes.
They might actually follow up on it. If you brought them in there they would definitely follow up on it. That requires extra effort you may not want to be bothered with. But it’s hard to blow off somebody standing in front of you and easy to blow off somebody on the phone.

Ranked choice voting accomplishes this goal well.
They/them, non-binary and proud.

Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.

Ranked choice works quite well actually. It gets rid of third party spoilers which absolutely suck. You can protest and have your vote then effectively count for something. It’s a win win. Having a candidate get 2% causing a major party candidate to lose by a whisker is an unmitigated disaster. You’re slipping this morning.

Think how many choices you'd have to make instead of just selecting straight ticket democrat.

The thing is my concern isn't just the two that come to my house twice a year getting fixed. Its wondering how many more are out there. People who move away, stop voting, but there is seemingly no way to clean up the registry. Even if they fixed mine, how many more are out there? And to add to my point I am not overly worried about voter fraud, although it shouldn't be ignored, but how much does it cost to print and mail those forms? Times how many being sent out? That is wasting taxpayer money be it hundreds of dollars or hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of decades.

Ranked choice is too convoluted. It was an unmitigated disaster in New York last year.

MAYBE ranked choice would work ok if you were only allowed a lone secondary choice (instead of the 5 total votes you were allowed in New York). This allows you to vote 3rd party as a protest vote and still have your secondary vote go to a major party candidate, but beyond that, ranked choice is just more complicated than a lot of voters could even understand.

How about ranked choice but you get TWO votes, one YES vote and one NO vote. That should knock out the highly objectionable candidates and let the remaining flow through to the general.

bmw wrote: Thu Nov 10, 2022 11:49 am For whichever party you're voting for, who do you want to see as the President and VP?

My vote goes for Ron DeSantis at the top of the Republican ticket and Rand Paul as the VP. Both had stellar election results with DeSantis out-performing the polls by 6-7 points and with Rand Paul getting 62% of the vote in Kentucky, besting his 57% mark in 2016.

I think DeSantis appeals to the vast majority of Trump supporters and doesn't turn off as many Independents as Trump does, he has a solid record to run, and Rand Paul can bring some small-government talk back to the party - talk which is sorely lacking in current times.

I'll be as curious to hear who the left-leaning people here want to see on the Democrat ticket as I am about those Republicans in here who all have strong feelings (one way or the other) about Donald Trump.
Anyways. Back on topic 😃.
Looks like Florida's legislature is making some moves to make it easier for your boy to run in 2024:
